In-cab signalling

Can anybody explain the colour combinations etc, for the in-cab signals in the Jointedrail CW-dash9s, as they do'nt seem to work how I expect them to.

Do they show the status of the block ahead as I think they ought, but it seems like they indicate the block the train is in, (But I know that already). Sometimes there are two colours in the one circle, such as yellow over green or red over yellow etc.

I'd be pleased if someone could explain this.

Thanks in advance

that is how cab signals work. they display the state of the current block. they should not be confused with some kind of device that tells you what the next signal is displaying - at least, not in the way most people seem to think. obviously the last signal you passed will tell you what the next signal is displaying. i will include a quote from a previous post where i explained it in more detail.

in the real world the block can update the cab signals as the lineside states change ahead. take for example, the train passes a clear signal, the cab signal will show the block clear. but if some rollingstock or some other train enters the block ahead of you, the track circuit code pulse will be interrupted, and it would drop to restricting. see at that point it doesnt matter what is happening ahead or at the last signal, it is all about the block you are currently in. that is the idea of the cab signal anyway; other than to provide protection, to make the most efficient use of a signal block. at this time you must pass a signal for the cab display to get any information.

again it is important to understand that the system is not showing you the upcoming signal (at least, not any more than a typical lineside signal would) it is showing you the state of the current block.

now on to the states of a cab signal.

there are four states the cab signal can display on your dash 9

Clear - a green circle
Limited - half yellow/half green circle
Approach - a yellow circle
Restricting - half yellow/half red circle

as you can see there is no way to display 'Stop' on a cab signal as the lowest aspect is 'Restricting', meaning be prepared to stop at any time. if you pass a yellow signal you will see 'Approach' displayed. if you pass a green signal you will see 'Clear' displayed. all other signals will display 'Limited' simply meaning reduce your speed in this block until another signal is given. i have also explained it in the past as if you are able to take hold of the signal you pass and bring it with you until you reach the next block.

i may further expand on the functionality of this system in the future, but as it stands it is a very fair model of the prototype operation.
