I'm in trouble with the police

Well, sort of...

I want to make an American police car in gmax, one of those beauties with the classic black/white colour scheme. But I'm having trouble finding a full set of suitable photos - side, front and back view of the same vehicle - to use as textures.

Would some kind soul living in a US state where the police use those colours be willing (or possibly courageous enough) to take the required pics and send them to me?

It would also help if I knew what the most common make/model of sedan the US police use these days.

If I am successful in modelling the car, I promise to upload it to the DLS so we can all use it. And I'll make sure it's orientated right in gmax so it can be used as road traffic.

The town that I live in does not use a black and white scheme, but there is a town adjacent to us that does. I know a couple of the police officers, so I'll see if I can get with them and get a few pictures that might help. It might take me a few days though.

For the car itself, i think it's likely to be either a Ford Crown Victoria or a Chevrolet Impala if its a more recent one. if it's older, im not sure

In California they also use the Ford Mustang with a huge engine in it.
They have to have the extra power and light body when chasing down speeders especially on the grapevine, I5 a 6% grade that runs between Bakersfield and LA..

Shoves may already have made a version of what you are looking for.

Have a look at kuid 225064:4010947 "Police Ford Crown Victoria"

The black/white scheme still definitely exists, there are stacks of photos on the net, just nothing I can use so far. I want to do something like this cruiser with the blacked out wheels, white door etc. It's from El Camino which sounds Californian (?) Is this an Impala?

I forgot about the Shoves example, but I'd still like to do one of my own just to keep practicing gmax.

The car in that link is a Crown Vic.

BTW, Black & Whites are coming back. I've seen several new cars in this scheme being brought back to the local depts around my area.

the One you linked is a Ford Police Interceptor (aka Crown Victoria)

The scheme is pretty basic the doors are white and the roof (from where a rag-top's rag would start) is white. The front has ram bars. The only thing I'm not sure about is the rear. It'll be black but there is probably writing on it.

No, not that one so much, it's too "nice". I just want to do one of the common s***boxes that your everyday donut-eater gets to cruise around in. I prefer the standard black/white look because to me it says "police" more than any other scheme - a legacy of my childhood when all US cop cars in movies etc were Ford Customlines in that scheme.

If I wasn't in trouble with the police before, I may be now for calling them donut-eaters.
:hehe:

@ Leefer - thanks for your offer of some pics. My e-mail in the Profile should be suitable to send to. What I need most are photos that are from points perpendicular to the sides, front and back, preferably of the same vehicle. I can probably fake the roof from those. I'm not that good a texturizer to make use of angled or distorted shots yet.

Very decent job you've done there Peter. That night shot near the Sunoco especially looks good.

One reason I want to use photos is that it naturally gives me the shape of the mesh, plus you get a lot of realistic detail without trying hard. Like the metallic reflections, the glass, the decals etc.

I can see I will need to teach myself how to do lights as well. I have no idea on that yet.

For the car model, the best would most likely be the ford crown victoria which is what my city's police and the CHP(California Highway Patrol) use. Except the CHP is starting to get rid of all their Crown vics and getting Dodge Chargers. They hope to convert to all Dodge Chargers by somewhere between late 2009 - mid 2010.

Let me know if you want to do the interior...I've been in plenty! Of course, my intimate knowledge is limited to the BACK seat!

Every city around here's been getting 2008 Dodge Chargers. Most are flat black with decals.
