If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

No, it just doesn't promise that the DLS access for '04 and '06 etc will be the same way as currently. At worst I guess it might be FTP only. I imagine that current arrangements will probably continue until changes are made to the DLS software, at which point, I imagine that keeping the DLS talking to unsupported products directly won't be part of the programmer's brief, but access will be given by some means.

Personally, I'll be uploading to the DLS as TS2009, but I may send a duplicate as build 2 to TPR if there is still a demand for my models from TRS04/06 hold-outs. I hope that others will take a similar route that allows distribution to users of previous versions, but keeps a version on the DLS for new version users.

The way I read it, those with FCTs, TS2009, or TS2010 will have access to the DLS. Users of older Trainz versions who do not have a newer version and do not have an FCT may not have access. (I'm thinking they probably won't have access, though whether that will happen right away or over time I don't know.) Those with old Trainz versions who do have an FCT will probably have to download stuff via FTP.

As far as the content already on the DLS, they want to get assets assets that are broken in the current versions of Trainz fixed. More details here:
http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/Download_Station_Cleanup

It's possible their plans may change somewhat, (the history for that page shows that the plan has changed a few times since it was first posted in 2008) but as-is the DLS Cleanup seems like it will result in a much better DLS and only the content that nobody (author or other users) likes enough to fix will get dumped as a result of this plan.

So, as I now see it, access to the DLS will be terminated come september to anyone not having a FCT. And even with one, 04/06 will not be supported (included) in the new system. So does that mean all content of any version will only be available to 09/10 owners?

Buy yourself a cheap copy of TS2009 from Amazon.co.uk and register it, don't bother to install it. Now you can download TRS2004 content to your heart's content.

TC 1 and 2 will be supported until 2011. TC 3 until 2012 I believe. If their going to continue support for these probably not much they can do with the content for a while. May be an option if you don't want 09/10. Toys R Us was listing Trainz Railwayz for $20. Not much to offer for 06 users but for someone going from 04 may be worth a look.

Attention: Auran Staff

This is exactly what this thread is titled! Ya'll got an explanation?
I have downloaded and installed TS2010-SP2 (from 41615- to 42203). This took about one hour.
After the Patch I have 6553 faulties in CMP. (Before the Patch 0 faulties).

The description of the errors are all the same: (except the hash-nr.)

"Error: Internal error. Unable to validate asset hash-83\kuid 253351 1017 at the current time"
I have installed TS2010 on Windows7 (64 bit) and had no problems before the patch.
What can I do ?
Thanks in advance.
Arie

Can someone tell me what "Faulty" & "Warning" means in 2010? I do not understand why something that worked in other versions just fine (even 2009), has problems with 2010. Tells me the problem is with the new program, not the content!

Faulty means the content has at least one error and won't work in Native mode. Warning means there is something that Content Manager thinks should be fixed but it's not a big enough issue to prevent the item from being used in Native mode. TS2010 is stricter then earlier versions of Trainz, which ignored a lot of errors. Of course, a lot of these errors are little things that can be fixed in five minutes or less with a little config.txt editing or one of PEVSoft's tools.

So can someone tell me where to find the standards for 2010 if I do not have that version?

Just right-click the item in question and select View Errors & Warnings and it'll tell you exactly what it's complaining about. The actual standards Content Manager applies to a specific object will be determined by the object's build-version. So it should be applying Auran's standards for whatever Trainz version that object was designed for. It's just better at finding errors.

A client told me of them. I know they work in all other versions, is made for 2004, but the client is using them in 2010.

You could upload them to the DLS, with it set to go to the staging area, that should validate the asset before putting it in the staging area, then choose to delete it from the staging area (I'm assuming this is a payware item since you say 'client').

Alternatively, ask the client to give you the errors, or give the asset to someone else that has ts2010 that will give you the errors.

Or, of course, just buy 2010 :)

Wake up call!

You could upload them to the DLS...
Even if I wanted to, why do it if 2004 content will be removed in a few months! As for payware, it used to be Auran's policy that everything on the DLS was to be free.
I guess that will change too come September when everything there, including the DLS itself will become payware.

So a client who has TS2010 asked you, who doesn't have TS2010, to build something for TS2010 knowing you couldn't test it.

Even when I copy one of my TS2010 objects, that has no errors, to make a variation on the theme, I still have to test it in case something unexpected happens. Even more so when I upgrade one of my TRS2004 objects. :)

Testing is normal and required. If I couldn't test because I lacked the proper testing tools, I would get those tools or wouldn't even contemplate making that something.

Martin, read the quote you answered!

I make all my assets for 2004 and error free, is now the program that makes them have errors because of changes to the standards or something.
No, I don't mean that at all. For example, is it the creator's fault that 09 flags the 'icon' tag or that alpha's are now a problem although we did it the way that auran told us to in the past. We didn't create these errors. Who is to say what is not an error in 2009/2010 won't be an error in 20xx. Not going to waste my time creating if the goal is always moving.
Yes, I know all about the error checking faults of the past, but it wasn't my problem that Auran accepted uploaded content with errors. Why should I be punished. If my content has errors, I'll gladly try to fix them, but just to make a blanket decision not to allow uploads of 04 content is short sighted.
