Idle thought time - Performance query

To be fair to N3V, there's only so much that can be done before you alienate users who, for example, only have Windows XP 32-bit on their systems. Bear in mind that one cannot just 'upgrade' to 64-bit Windows, it requires a fresh reinstall. As for framerates, the blame is on both sides.

TS12 is coded correctly to use up to 4 gigs under a 64 bit operating system.

I wish Process Explorer would say differently, but I only see Trainz using 2GB of space. I suppose though it only uses what it needs so perhaps I'm not using the 4GB, or rather 3076GB it's capable of handling.

I think it requests memory to a max of 4 gigs but I think it it will depend on the layout, assets used and complexity.

The one thing that comes to mind when you think about a computer is advancement. Nothing has ever been static.

You bought a computer, and some games. A year later a new game comes out, it won't run on your computer. You buy a new Computer. You buy, a new Game, Computer, Game, Computer...it's endless.

But that has always been the game pushing the machine.

Now we have machines that are beyond this game, so it's the games turn. And if that is NV3, then it's their turn.

And if you chime in and say that XP thing again, isn't that like a 10 year old platform? Them computers should be doing Quicken, Email, Facebook, and on line Banking, not games.

An XP is NOT a gaming machine, it's a cripple in a wheel chair with both arms cut off.

Here it comes from NV3;

3. Brand new game engine - E2
Custom-built from the ground up to be optimized for train and rail simulation
Backwards compatible with existing Trainz content.
Currently being integrated into the core Trainz code
Full world shadows, multi-core for performance, 64 bit, all the latest graphics techniques and shaders, enormous draw distance.
Development will continue to add more features.
Eventually all products - Mac, mobile, World of Rail and Trainz "mainline" will leverage E2

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I'll buy it. Home run, thank you!

The nice thing about XP for games is that its a much lighter operating system so doesn't get in the way as much. You can actually get a bit more performance out of the hardware. The downside is the latest GPUs etc come with drivers for Win 7 / 8 not XP.
