G'day All,
I apologise in advance for the number of images and the long story, but I'm pretty happy with how this has turned out and there's quite a lot of detail that I'd like to show. So thank you for your patience.
Background; So-far, the most adventurous building work I've done has been modifying or adding little bits here and there to the awesome work of the very talented route creators who have made their creations available to the rest of us, whether it be payware or freeware. Indeed, this area is part of a connection between Scratchy's Eagle River and Approach medium's Pennsylvania and Berwind routes, as part of my main mega merged route.
This is the first area where I have really started completely from scratch and evolved a basic idea into something that I'm pretty happy with. I should clarify that I'm not working with any particular knowledge about prototypical railroads and how they might operate or be laid out, so there is every chance that some of this may be quite odd to anyone who actually knows what they're talking about so, again, apologies if any of it is actually really bad or silly.
The basic theme is that this is the base of a small logging (and possibly mining) and tourist railroad, just a couple of miles down the line from Eagle River's Beaver Cove, called the riverside railroad (because I had a sign from JR which already had that name on it). I wanted an area where I could base all the Shay locos I have without filling up the facilities at Eagle River, and an excuse to use more of K&L's lovely Strassburg coaches and some of BTVFD's TPTC equipment etc.
There is also a small museum with a few logging-related locos and rolling stock on display and the railroad will often bring in an operational loco for visitors to get up close and personal with, on live steam weekends (that's that covered area in one corner). Eagle River and Riverside run joint tourist excursion trains on each other's tracks and up into the hills behind Riverside on a scenic route. It also provides a link between Eagle River's Beaver Cove and one of the branch lines of the Pennsylvania and Berwind route.
Anyway, on to the pics. A bit of an overview.
The roundhouse and other locos and rolling stock sheds.
The maintenance and MOW area.
A closer look at the museum.
To Be Continued.......
