I think im starting to hate this game. I have some much time making maps and as soon as i start adding the trains it cant handle it. Is there a pc out there that can run this game with more then 2 trains at once ? I've been trying to add 10 or 20 with 2 large yards as soon as i add the railcars in the yard its done. I think the game was not made to realy get into or it maybe my pc its as soon as i start the game my cpu useage goes t o 100% i am rum a amd3500+2.2ghz gfroce 8500gt video card
Does anybody know if this game is playable?

Hi,

Its very playable.

On one of my own layouts I have over 20 trains running around without any hassles, besides drivers not going where they are ment too or getting lost.

gfroce 8500gt video card

At a guess, that could be half the cause, the 8500 cards were not much good for performance and you said "large yards" where there would be lots of spline points, tracks, objects then you are adding more objects for wagons/rolling stock and locomotives.

Hi:wave: ,

I belive that I read somewhere that there was a thread a while back relating to your problem.. When you say
I've been trying to add 10 or 20
do you mean 10 to 20 trains? I would give just about anything for that..How big are your
2 large yards
? I also read that before, the more content you have in a small area, the more your computer will suffer.
My own computer, with a new install of XP again, with nothing but Trainz installed, I cant run more than 6 trains in a fairly decent sized yard, and when Im out on the mainline doing 50MPH, well my computer says "lets slow down to 20MPH" (No my computer dosen't talk to me, I was just being sarcastic.)
I think the game was not made to realy get into or it maybe my pc
IMHO, the whole trains experiance is better than any other sim at the present time. Im more of a route builder/driver. I dont have much of an eye for senery.
Your computer Specs are far more better than my own, so possibly it could be just alot of content on your route

Hope this helps:wave:

I think the splines in the large yards are killing your performance. In my experience, a lot of splines can really degrade your performance and then adding a lot of rolling stock on in those yards just adds to the problem.

I've had 30 trains running on a route before, but I've tried to keep yards to a minimum and not load them down with rolling stock. I have a few exceptions, but my frame rates really suffer when I enter these areas.

do you

do you guys have ns reading line route?
IF so when i fill it up with trains and rolling stock it almost comes to a stop . i think it the cpu im going to a duel core it should help

Nope won't help much. Trainz does not utilize the second core, it'll simply sit around sucking power.

You say you're having trouble.
1. How much system RAM do you have?

2. as stated earlier the 8500 is a mediocre card. If you really want solid Trainz performance look into at least the 8800 GT or GTS.

The 8500 card was not the greatest, my old 7600gt blows it away, but I'm running a 8800gt evga ssc now;)

I have a brand new 8500 for sale and I can't even give it away!

ok 2GB of RAM much better

Yeah about the only thing that can be upgraded is the video (or rather the only thing that needs to be upgraded).
the nVidia 9600 GT's just came out and if you're on a tight budget it'll be better.
I'd personally go for an 8800 GTS 512MB if possible. It's got more than enough horsepower to run Trainz.

If you're getting a slowdown in large yards, you might want to check the
track you are using. Avoid using a 2m track wherever possible in a congested area.

I did UP's Cheyenne yard to scale and I'm a getting a slowdown no matter what track I use, but it's worth it!
