I need Advice.....too many titles!!

That's a kind offer but no thanks :)

The Razorback crew went through the hundreds of rolling stock assets which we offer in our asset packs and corrected all the mistakes so they run on both TRS2004 and TRS2006. We now only receive a tiny number of reports of problems with them, maybe one or two so far this year. We have thousands of active members.

I appreciate the frustration if you can't reproduce the problems that people report but sorry I don't know why that's happening. Just checking, presumably you've got them to send you their jetlog.txt and log0.html files?

John

I know exactly why its happening two items with scripts use the same memory location. TRS2004 just doesn't protect scripts from each other. To solve the problem you need to either precisely control what is in all the scripts or you need to move to a version that has better protection. TRS2009 has the best script protection.

I can choose a subset of items to run fine but then what you are saying is run Razorback selected and nothing else not that TRS2004 works with all items built for it.

... I read through the Auran web site and am totally confused with all of the titles now available ....

Not surprising!

.... Here is my question: If you want to have the latest, greatest Trainz experience, what title(s) do you get?

2009 WBE is the latest edition and a complete product. You can download lots of additional content from the DLS for free (but you really need to purchase a "First Class Ticket" to get a decent download speed). As you will read on this forum 2009WBE has some teething problems and curently you will find you need to run 2009 in "Compatibility Mode" to run some older content.

I will not join in the "Which version of Trainz is the greatest" debate!

Do you need multiple titles?

No you don't - unless you want specific UK locos and stock, some of which are only available in TC3 - as built in assets, and not availble on the DLS.

Hope this helps.

Chris

You can download lots of additional content from the DLS for free

And then you can come back here to ask questions like "Why won't the bogies show in game" and "Why do the trees look so bad", and "Why do I keep getting this error".

Rest assured we will try to help you as best we can.

Wow!! Now I understand why I was so confused!! It does look like (as Dermmy and Itareus said) that a lot depends on what you want to do with it. I only want to drive the trains. I don't have any desire (right now at least) to make any routes myself or design any content. I generally have not had good luck downloading third party content in games--so I try and shy away from that and only go with what it comes with originally. I want the most routes, most engines, and best graphics available to drive the trains in the original package. Thanks for all your help.

trainz

I would get 2004 if I was you....so far, I am not happy with 2009 and I don't have 2006 yet, so I can't comment on that.
Just my opinion.

Dennis:)

Thanks for the question bmckown

I am a Trainz newbie and had the same questions. I had TRS2004 but never really got into it since my old PC was underpowered. Last week I bought a new PC and the Trainz Railwayz 2 DVD game (TC 2.7 (Harlem & Metropolis)and TRS 2006). So I am now running TRS2004, TRS2006, and TC2.7. Unlike bmckown, I am into designing routes and downloading add'l content and creating urban environments (I am a Sim City user from Sim City 2 right up to SC4RH, and how many of you remember Transport Tycoon and A-Train?). I have CMP working successfully in TC and TRS2006, and TRS2004 importing via it's web interface to DLS. So all three games work fine. Right now I'm spending my time building cities in TC. Questions:

1. Should I keep both TRS2004 and TRS2006, or unistall one of them and if so which one? I had trouble importing TC assets into TRS2006, haven't tried the reverse.
2. I like the built in assets in TC so that's where I'm spending my time for now, and that's where all my DLS stuff is.
3. My new PC is has 4K RAM running Vista 64-bit - any performance setting recommendations? Any reason to switch to XP compatability mode?
4. Any other advice?
Thanks.
