...but WHERE IS THE SERIAL NUMBER?? I got the Deluxe Edition RS 2004 and I cannot for the life of me get it to finish installing. I've got 4 discs, a cardboard insert, and the box, and the only number I can find at all is an 8-figure number/letter combo that the Install Wizard won't accept in upper or lower case, and it's driving me up the wall.

I hope this post isn't disruptive, but I can't get to the Tech Support without this number I can't find. What am I missing?

Please don't flame... I already admitted I'm an idiot.

There is no manual; Like I said, box, insert, discs. Oh, and it was bought new at the store, sealed, so I presume everything should be there (as opposed to the garage-sale special).

No CD case either. 4 discs in those el-cheepo paper-and-cellophane sleeve things. I have pulled out all the discs, peeked down into the aforementioned sleeves, completely opened the cardboard insert out flat and looked down into the box. Nada. Just the one 8 figure number, which doesn't even resemble the long string of numbers and dashes the serial number registry here on the site requests. I "explore"d the first disc for docs, too, but the only decent sized number there is a product code that doesn't fit the four number dash four number dash... sequence either.

This is starting to sound like an elaborate (and annoying) hoax even to me, but I am absolutely dead serious. I'm starting to think something's missing from my package.

Why don't you take it back to the store where you brought it from and explain the situation to them. Ask them to provide you with a serial number, or a refund!!! (they might be prepared to open another sealed box to see if that one has a serial number in it).
Maybe a hole batch of them don't have serial numbers??? It should be the stores problem, not yours!!! Good luck...
Cheers, Mac...

You should have gotten a manual and a fold out sheet showing keyboard shortcuts. The serial number is on the manual.....it could be that it was mistakenly left out of the box...or it could be a used copy that someone shrink wrapped to make it look new....I, too, would take it a back to where you bought it and explain that it is missing the manual with the number, and without the number you can't install it....

You know, i would gladly do that if I hadn't bought this thing like two years ago; And i most certainly would have dealt with it then if my POS computer hadn't decided to go into critical mass before I had a chance to load the game. But it did, and the game got dropped into a box and forgotten until a couple days ago, so, even if I could remember where I got it, I certainly have no receipt and am more than likely a couple hundred extra miles away as I've moved since then.

Okay, so what has been determined is that I'm not overlooking the number because I'm clinically stupid and/or legally blind, but because something isn't there that should be, and I now have what amounts to 4 shiny drink coasters with pictures of trains on them. Good. Thank you for all your time, help, and for allowing me to convince yet another community of people that I should be sterilized before I reproduce.

Don't feel bad, I spent AU$19.99 on Industry Giant Gold II (via Auran) and never got a CD key with my digital download. (I 'found' a CD-Key and now it wants the original disc)

Auran has been pretty good about their own products though, but I would still contact help desk and look into it.

Well, the only advice I can now give you is start looking around for a cheap version of TRS2004... I read in the forum somewhere within the last week or so that someone in the US picked up the "Trainz Collection" (TRS2006,TRS2004, Trainz Routes 1-4, UTC & Paintshed) for less than $10 US. (not sure where)...
Holy heavens, I paid $39.95A on Aurans 2007 "Christmas Special" for the Trainz Collection and thought I got a real bargain. (christmas present for a nephew).
I think Auran is still selling the "Trainz Collection" for $49.95A. Even at that price, I still think it's a bargain... (I paid $99.95NZ retail for TRS2006 & the way I see it, the best money for valve/enjoyment/investment I ever made)...
Go on, splash out!!!!
Cheers, Mac... :)

I would not say you was a moron. You purchased it a couple of years ago your comp went belly up and you forgot about it until recently. Its unfortunate that the CD-Key is missing. Cut your loses and order the complete set directly from Auran. That way you know that you will get everything you need complete with CD-Key.
