I don't mean this in a negative way, but...

Whats with the sudden spike in NYCTA fans?

I'm just curious as to where they all came from. Every thread I look in one place or another mentions something abouta NYC R1something or a request to do a certain subway car or route.

I understand every type of train has some admirer, I could understand if it was one or two people, but it seems like an entire classroom of newbies has decided to come out and fill up the trainz forums with posts and threads about NYC subways.

Again, I don't mean this in a negative way - personally, I could care less about subways - I'm only curious.

Yeah, right!!!!!!!

"Honey....I don't mean this in a negative way, but you're getting fat!"

Yeah, I just about got used to all these "NG" posts:hehe: , and all these threads that have an exclamation point (!) in the title! Like that makes it more exciting! A subject of a thread!! Imagine that!!! More people read threads with exclamation points in the title!!!! It's a fact!!!!!

Then along comes these subway guys!!!!!!!!!:o

And don't me started on people who use Smilies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a fan but not from now. maybe because everyone is moving to New York.:hehe: Naw but that does sound a little wierd:o

Buddy I must be missing a lot if they are all moving to NY, maybe I should pay more attention to the new people at the school instead of the hot German exchange student thats on the Cross Country team.:p ;)

Its insane, its underground anyway you never see it. Sounds like people trying to be different but cant.....It will go away after a little while, I just ignore the lot of them. NYCTA is weird anyway, and the people that are fans can be just a weird....:o

Cheers,
Adam

Hey as long as they don't send homeless people to urineate on our locomotives I'll just ignore them. This isn't being rude, its fact. i have seen homeless peeing on the subway before. Hey maybe a new scenary item, peeing hobo. Yes I know that i'm being kinda wierd right now, but I'm sick and hopped up on cough syrup and other meds so I don't really care that much.

.
As long as they don't pee on the conductor rail...

Actually that's a myth (MythBusters Seas. 1, Ep 3). ;)

Also, my guess is as good as y'alls; maybe some big store in New York has started carrying Trainz and now Trainz is the hottest "new" thing on the block.

 It's a normal cycle, :) as far as I can tell. :hehe: We get spikes in all sorts of things:wave: then they fade away while someone else is taking over the forums.:o
 What's wrong with smilies? Do some people use too many?:mop:

 Claude

Yeah, I just about got used to all these "NG" posts:hehe:

How dare you, I cannot believe you would talk down to us narrow minded people, narrow gauge helped build the world, and will be instrumental to our eventual world domination, MUHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Kidding, But yea, get used to it, some of the younger group seem to like subways (I say younger because of the grammar) so we will be seeing a lot of subways. My guess is, that since these days people's interactions with trains are either with diesel freight, or subway and commuter trains. So, since these are the trains people see these days, they want to make routes for these trains

I grew up in Colorado, I turn 20 in November, I rode the Durango and Silverton when I was 5 or 6, I remember because I got soot in my eyes. I spent most of my childhood either in Chicago (riding the L and Metra) and visiting the Colorado Railroad Museum. I grew up with Colorado Narrow Gauge, hence the reason I model it in Trainz (and hopefully in HOn3 some day too)

So thats my theory, get ready for more subways. And of course, more narrow gauge from me. I will be adding a 30" section to Timber Ridge next, as it seems to have become popular

I could understand if it was one or two people, but it seems like an entire classroom of

Ah! that'll be the class of <60 ... I saw them while I was .... Wandering Down To Walmart

You know you can always link in other smilies as pictures from the web. There is a great collection of freeware ones out there.

Whats with the sudden spike in NYCTA fans?

Don't know, but I would guess that it may be because it is easier to railfan a subway system than a railroad like a fallen flag. There wasn't much in the way of freight railroading in NYC for years as compared to other cities especially since New York Central stopped using their West Side High Line and practically no other railroad had freight lines into Manhatten, everything comes in by ship or truck. Most non-subways, you either need a car to find certain locations or you have to take a bus or train to them, compared to a subway where almost everything is reachable through lower fares/transfers and a little walking. NYCTA has a bunch of hidden secrets to it such as the old City Hall station and the secret station for one president (I forget which one offhand) so he could sneak in and appear healthy to the public when he really had problems. The secret stuff somehow encourages some residents to become adventurous and go exploring, some take that attitude beyond NYC to other rail related locations. One I know of is a site I found where a group of guys once explored the Hell Gate bridge back as teenagers, later in life they went back just so one of them could propose to his girlfriend on the bridge.

Depending on what they do with their NYCTA-love, they could develop into liking something else. If I had not looked into the history of my own local passenger line (SIRR), I would never have found that it was formerly the B&O entry into NYC or that there once was an actual trolley line on Staten Island. And I would never have seen pictures of old SIRR steam engines that had their unique feature.

The above ground portions do exist, they are out in the suburbs of Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, but I think that because of their location, people just think they are boring. I always remember the one station, I think it is the Smith-9 Streets one in Brooklyn, because of the interesting design. The tracks come out from underground and go several stories in the air just to cross a bridge over a waterway while giving boats clearance then head back underground, the station itself is right on the bridge, you can see it from the highway nearby and I can never see myself climbing all those flights of stairs just to catch a train.

You guys don't get it. I'm not a major NYCTA fan...I like canadian subways more. Canadian subways are more than just some boxes. Some of them are historical.

I wish subways were respected by more people. Sure, they don't have to go crazy about them, but at least say nice things about them and not say "uh what the heck is so special about subways". :'(

Because Most Subways, just dont have the functionality to make other people interested. Yes, they have history, but really, people just dont care. You never see them, they are just electrical driven Passenger Cars, and they Move people. Like others, i like Freight, but you don't see me making 60 million threads or posts about freight. Its pointless stuff.
Like the old saying is. It was Cute when it started, then it got boring, now its downright annoying. NYCTA, TTC what ever. Its old news and i hope the fire in it goes out soon.

Right now you have to run the risk of getting arrested to photograph NYC subways, it was bad enough pre 911 when you only had to worry about getting mugged.
I really dont see whats so interesting about them, the only lines that are of any interesti to me are the elevated ones. But it gets downright annoying getting threads filled up with dumb posts by subway noobs arguing about whether a screenshot has a R123 or a R321 based on the positioning of a flag over the left side drivers window and then having to deal with the freeware section spammed up with requests for R234's because there are only R234GOP's available.

I should hope not. I like subways, regardless of what others say. TTC forever! :D

I've had to wonder about this phenomenom myself, I too have been seing a marked number of newbies who, for some reason or other, all hail from the East Coast, live relatively close or in a major metropolis, and are no less than infatuated with its public transit system. Maybe Trainz is the big new thing on the block, or it's being sold at a lower price than a certain competing sim. Whatever the cause there are NYCTA n00bs among us.

As for subways, I generally don't have much interest in them either, they're little more than EMUs that run underground powered by a third rail, not much else to it. In Germany subways aren't nearly as important as the old S-Bahns, are own commuter rail system, but that's a different story. The oldest one I know of is a main car from the mid 60's somewhere in Frankfurt, that's all I want to know, anything further to do with subways doesn't really interest me. But hey, I don't do much NG either:p

To each his own
