I am leaving posts but many meanings.

Hi Barry,

Greetings from the other side of the world. I'm 72 years young and middle aged really. You tend to get these senior moments now and again when you are all sixes and sevens. They blow away and there is a special satisfaction at our age when you know you can still create something that others can't. Just remember that while there may be 280,000+ Trainzers, only 3,000 or so use the forum actively. And many less are that special breed that make those magnificent trains and the virtual environment we call Trainz in which they remind us of the good old days.

I've enjoyed your contributions and creations for many years now. As an ex-Brit living in New Zealand I dont get overseas as much as I used to when in the Air Force. Trainz is a fascinating program, mindblowing one minute then frustrating the next. Never a dull moment. But it is people like you who think outside the square that push the boat out (pun intended). Some people seem to have forgotten that the future of Trainz at one time was to be an all embracing TRANSPORTATION system. How would trains have fared as a transporter if they couldn't transfer their passengers and cargo to ships, barges, planes, trucks, even rickshaws. I'm sure that much of the produce from NZ travels by multiple transportation modes.

Back to your creations. I lived by the River Thames and have many good memories of things called bridle paths and locks. Horses were used on roads to pull the brewery wagon and deliver milk, and by the river and canals those magnificent animals towed the barges. I always felt a twinge of regret when passing some of the canals that had fallen into disuse and neglect that more use wasn't made of them. With the price of petrol these days who knows how we will get our produce to market. Similarly, I travelled on many of the named steam trains as a youngster, and was invited into the cab by the friendly engine driver to gaze in awe at this fantastic machine. It's people like you that keep our memories alive.:D

I've got another fifty years or so to go before I leave this mortal coil and I hope that I'll still be enjoying Trainz then. I shall certainly still be enjoying your present and past creations, and I look forward to your future endeavours.

Hello Ian nice reading interesting posts on the forum. Its a pity that transportation got lost in the mists somewhere with the two seperate branches of Trainz that were planned originally. Although the wheel seems to have turned partly full circle now with trainz getting divided into the scenery creators and the train driving specialists, etc in the 2009/10 versions.

The appeal with trainz for me has been the scenery part and later creating content then developing into historical type sceneries. Canals would open up all the UK stretching over many 100s of miles and for my era of interest is probably the time before trains and horse drawn transport (just easier that way as regards content making).
However with the changes in trainz versions I seemed to get scuppered with one thing and another and abandoned the idea.

I thought classics would be the last type of series but maybe 2009/10 versions will fix what can be done more permanently with file types and what will work and what will not.

Regarding canals they could also be included simultaneously into the steam train era but for me that would be too complex but nice if others worked on the idea. Whether I ever upload to the DS again though is perhaps doubtful using tc3, with the changing demands and quality of future content required.

Nice chatting and thanks

Barry

I'm 14, a kid and I get loads of people picking fault with me and my work mainly from people in their 20's or 30's who think that they are the best and if it's not as good as theirs it shouldn't be created, But everyones differnet, Many people think that photo-textures are better but I don't like them as trainz is on a whole crist images and seeing a bug splatterd image of a train including windows go past is not for me,

I create content and feel that I i like it it's good as there is always someone out there who will like it too. I just keep my head high and carry on no-matter what although I have doubts about auran creating hings in several versions of little things instead of 1 with it all in.

(By the way: I have also enjoyed your content)

Keep at it,

phil

Hello Phil Trainz is user friendly for all ages at least as regarding the scenery making but content making seems to be getting ever more complex but 2009/10 versions may bring a more solid base to work with and to explore the potential of trainz more.
Funny this thread it sems to have got a mind of it it own and keeps on expanding and bringing people in with interesting posts.

Hello Barry... and all other "oldtimers" regardless of age.

I often times raise an eyebrow or two when reading posts in here. It never seizes to amaze me how rude and crude some people can be, and how politeness somehow went out the window over the years. But that, I guess, is the price we have to pay for a forum/internet such as this, with access for all. There is not much we can do about that (except leave it to the moderators to weed out the worst of them).

But, I'm also amazed at how many people will go out of their way to help out other trainzers. The amount of content, experience and knowledge provided by you all is what makes Trainz such a great hobby.

Best we can do is to ignore the first, and enjoy the latter.

So, stay with us please. Most of us really appreciate you

This is what makes this forum so interesting, isn't it. Whatever the topic, you get input from people all over the world, each with their unique view and knowledge of a particular area. And if it were not for the more "mature" members here, where on earth would you ask questions like "what did this look like in year so and so"??

Not quite sure if it is Trainz ageing us as the problems come up over how many years now.
Or maybe it's helping to keep us young (as long as we don't look in a mirror).
Bit of a puzzle that one.

;):)

The XML version is the one to use. I'd let it mature for a couple of weeks and then have a go.

Cheerio John

Will leave the Blender XML version for a bit longer as you suggest and see if any more changes to come. Still got the previous version.

Thanks

Barry

Part of it has to do with being "young at heart, but old in age". Trainz, and any other "games" for that matter, literally keeps your mind/brains young because it is constantly "tickled" to perform. The moment we forget to "use" our brains we grow really "old" and lose interest in life.

It is for this reason I refuse to "mature" because maturity to me means becoming part of the masses that don't "play" any more. I want to play till I die, and hopefully that is a very long time from now.

I for one know that Trainz have given me a few extra grey hairs already, but since I earned them, I wear them with pride :hehe:

When I was in the Royal Navy many many moons ago, we used to have a little ode going the rounds that went something like this ....

Between the security of childhood and the insecurity of a second childhood, we have a fascinating group of humanity called "Matelots".......and so on and on.....NOW if you transfer "matelots" to "Trainzers" thats what we have got here, a fascinating group of people who do wonders with the available tools.

Barry, I have downloaded a few of your items and i think that they are amazingly good, seeing as I know Liverpool Docks very well, interesting to see how you have portrayed them in the various years you have and to the days when i lived by them. And before any smarta**es come back with a quip.....in the 1950's and not the 1870's ...!!!!!:hehe:

Of the many posters in this thread, young and old..Phil (Tardis) at 14, Angelah, at a mere 40 ...;) and then us oldies at well...lets say bus passes come in handy...

Each and everyone of you has done a fantastic job in using the available software to bring something to life that was probably only available to us in a dreamworld...My only regret is that now the goalposts are being moved and change is on the way ....will this change make Trainz any better? will it lose it's way ? Who knows only time will tell, personally i hope it doesnt go to the extent that i will be unable to use it on my pc's, like the problems i'm having with FSX....(Flight Sim X), my modest pension will only go so far ......lol

I just hope that with the new version of Trainz in the pipeline.... and with the changes for Content Creators, that we do not lose a load of gifted and talented creators.
One last thing ..... Davie..!!! that damn Dukey found his way onto my layout in 06..!!!!!:hehe:

moggy...

moggy Hi.......... The 1950s was a very different age also, and not too long ago. I remember seeing a steam lorry going along the road when I was a youngster. I think it was probably the last one still working. Horse and carts I still think were still to be seen....bone shaker trams still trundled along or at least I think they did...for a few more years...... Even where I live now there were farms opposite and used to go peapicking when young in the 1950s at the local farms. .......... Now it's built over and a complex of roads down to Seaforth and docks.... Much easier to create the older sceneries with less complexity........... You are right about content making as don't know exactly what the situation will be as regards the standards 2009 version will accept if made with 2009 cmp or ccp? ..........Its fine people saying move with the times etc...but not everything is necessary or even improves things with constant changes, except if we have choices...and do all those people make content............ Windows Vista is an example as the sailsimulator scenery designer and dem editor I used to use no longer works with it......... There seems to be a few unknowns at least for me regardless of what I have read.... Again what standard will the DS accept for content made with 2009 version and thereafter......... Will it only be to a more advanced level eventually of texturing or whatever, etc......if too many restrictions then it perhaps it becomes time to bid a final farewell at least as regards content making.......... Well thanks for that moggy (Angelah, at a mere 40 ...;) and then us oldies at well...lets say bus passes come in handy...) It's been a long, long time since I saw 40....

And a word to all those panicking about the 2009 edition. My advice is wait and see. You will only give yourself something horrible like an ulcer worrying about something that you cannot effect.
If it comes out and the forum gets bunged up with complaints you know not to buy, or alternatively it may be the best thing since sliced bread, who knows yet? Only those folk at Auran.
And even if it is all they promise, maybe you're quite happy with 04 or earlier, a lot of people still use UTC and are quite happy. So Happiness is what you make it, not what other people say it should be or that you need this or that to achieve it.
So can we all calm down, use what we have or prefer at the moment and let the future come when it is good and ready.

And Barry, I remember trams working, horse and carts and steam rollers, yes the steam variety, not diesel rollers, all from a wonderful era when you could leave your front door wide open in the knowledge that nobody would come in and attack or steal from you, and that was in the east end of London! And then the trolley bus came of age. Why did they ever stop using those?

We should enjoy life for what it is, show a bit of thought and care for others and yes, love if you like, and if UTC, Stentec sailing, TRS2004 or 2006 is your cup of tea, then so be it. We have what is called a free will, so why not use it?

And my love and caring regards to all folk at Auran and on the forum, and anybody who uses Trainz or indeed gains enjoyment out of life in whatever way they find best.

God bless you all,

Angela

Hi Barry

Thanks for all your objects :) They have always been helpfull to me when I put a canal, dock etc on my route:) . Sadly you always get people in all hobbys were if they don't like something they will complain about it. I think trainz is excellent for all types of transport and your content has always been usefull for people modeling canals, rivers , docks seas etc. I am only 13 and been a member since May 2003 and what I don't get are the people who think because members are a certain age, their modelling is going to be rubbish. I put as much effort and detail as I can into my routes. Also some people just like running trains and some like building routes. Another thing that really annoys me is how people complain about a young new member not making routes with shrubs, bushes, weeds etc. There was a excellent example of this recently. What they don't get is that we all have to start somewhere. The thing is, ignore those people, its your game, do what you want.

Hello Jamie, Ian (Vulcan) also has a lot of interesting canal content with working locks etc and drivable canal boats, etc but you will probably know......... Plenty to explore in trainz. In a way I am lucky as have used Blender for a number of years making content for a sailing simulator and with the beta blender exporter I can experiment with the same items made years ago for the sailsimulator and new content I make, but also and try them in trainz....So have a few options.
