Hump yard grades

I just received the latest Burlington Bulletin from the Burlington Route Historical Society which includes a description of the Cicero, Illinois Automatic Classification Yard that opened in 1958. If you Google Earth it you'll still see the yard but the hump is gone.

Interesting specs for the hump in the bulletin are:
93 miles of track
cap. 5777 cars
43 classification tracks
grade of the hump at the master retarder was 4.36%
grade thru the group retarders was 1.06%
grade of the classification yard was 0.13%

I'll take your word for it, that's really not a good area to railfan. It puts the word "terminal" in a whole new light!:eek:

Sorry about that. I converted the drawings from portrait to landscape and forget to renumber. They do work now.
