Never looked better. I'm starting to see how much a difference the ground textures make, along with the sky texture. Some pics I have seen submitted to the contest thread miss the mark on one or both of these, and it really cripples a finely composed shot! I can only tell this on the larger pics, where it seems to stand out more.

I totally agree, Ed. Somewhere along the way I'll make some new skies too. For the most part, the one's I've been using are payware. I plan on replacing them at some time...so I may as well make them myself...another challenge. :)

Cheers,
Fred

Awesome shots man! BTW how come all of your shot posts on this thread have been at exactly 12:14am? Maybe I wasn't looking at it rught but I could have sworn...... Anyways I love the action!

Because that's the only time his secret volcanic lair is not under satellite surveillance, and the false lake at the top can open to reveal his internet dish.

That, or you are wrong, so very, very wrong!:hehe:

There are quite a few marshes along the Hudson River that are coming up as I work my way north, so I've been experimenting with "marsh mist." :)

A Super Panavision shot...:hehe:

WOW! That's all I can say! :udrool::mop:

I think it looks great! I can't wait to run some trains on this route someday!

Gisa ^^

Looks great; I've played with that "Myst" object, and just found it to be a bit much. Is "Marsh Mist" an actual piece of content?

That's my plan...;) I've been playing around with mist effects and, when I get it perfected, I'll make a "Marsh Mist" effect that can be strategically placed in a route. Come to think of it...it might work for haunted houses and graveyards too. Bwahhh hah hah hah hah! :D

Cheers,
Fred

P.S. It's quite simple really...just smoke and mirrors. :)

Excellent...(he said, rubbing his hands together in anticipation...)

Absolutly amazing Fred, I really like the effect there! Looks exactly as it did when I went down in Janurary this year.:D
Oh, and hello from Switzerland!!! (School trip :hehe:)

These balsted German keyboards are confusing. (Personal opinion :o)

There's a couple of things I would like to clarify. I've been playing around with an existing waterfall effect...changing the smoke parameters, etc. The problem for a "fog" or "marsh mist" effect is that the "smoke" from the waterfall effect comes from a specific direction, governed by the attachment point. Also, the effect is generally too thick and generates too quickly, for a convincing rising mist from a marsh. Adjusting the parameters of the smoke in the config file can deal with that...(I think it is still too thick in the above shot). My idea is to aim multiple smoke attachment points at a central location, so that, when they come together, it appears as if they are rising vertically out of the marsh. It's kind of like vectors canceling out, but not really, just an illusion.

Me thinking out loud...:)

Cheers,
Fred

P.S. In the screenshot above, you can't tell that the mist is coming from a particular direction. Hey...it's a screenshot...:)...but, in game, you can.
