I thought I would get things started with a very early shot on the Hudson River route I have begun. The first section will run from Peekskill, NY to Manitou, NY...but eventually I want to take it to Albany. Both sides of the river will be modelled (a river runs through it :) ) using SRTM DEMS, Google Earth photos, and Topos. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

So here's the "before" shot...

P.S. You see...now I've commited myself. :D

Now there's a Yankee classic! :D

A branch used to run up the Beaverkill to Phoenicia. It's now a preservation railroad. Gonna include that by any chance?

If you get to Albany include the Bagel eatery; they do nice bagels there.

I've gotten quite a bit done today...on vacation until Monday. Here's a couple of more "work in progress" shots.

Whew .. alot of work to do on this one but when you're finished it looks like a classic. Excellent texturing

True Marc...It is going to take some work, but I'm having a lot of fun while doing it. Testing is a long way in the future at the moment. In the meantime, the Hudson needs boats! ;)

nice work. I have a question. Is this going 2 be the old version (N.Y.C.) only or the modern version (Metro-North,Amtrak,CSX,and Canadian Pacific)? I would like 2 know but keep up the GREAT WORK!!

I'm trying to keep the time period somewhat ambiguous so that the user can choose. The configuration of the telegraph wires, for instance, is from the NYC time period. I am using contemporary topographical maps and Google Earth photos to lay the track, road, and for the placement of some of the buildings. In the interest of the "fun factor", there will be some non-prototypical content that can be deleted or replaced by the individual user if it offends their sense of prototypicality (hmmmm...is that a word? :)) So the answer is "all of the above."

Are u going to do some Metro-North action or Amtrak Empire Corridor Services(Maple Leaf,Adroniack,Ethan Allen,Lake Shore Limited)

Yes...that's all possible. Don't forget the freight action...NYC, Penn Central, Conrail, CP and CSX. There's a single track freight line on the West shore that I'm going to model as well. Lots of variety here. That's why I'm keeping the time period somewhat open ended.

P.S. I'm planning on placing portals on both shores at the north and south and in the river for boat traffic. :)

Hey, do you have an estimate on release? Would this be possible to merge with the other layout already available that comes up from NYC to Garrison? Could you possibly model as far south as Garrison so that NYC to Albany would be possible? We need more USA, northeastern prototype layouts. All I see on DLS lately are fictitious, or foreign (UK, European) layouts. Is this in TRS04 or 06 only? I only have 04.

It is probably going to take about 4 months to get the first section from Peekskill to Beacon finished. There's a railyard up there that I want to include before releasing Part I. At the moment I am working south of Bear Mountain Bridge between Manitou and Peekskill which is already south of Garrison, NY. I doubt if this route would merge with the one you mentioned. The terrain is generated from SRTM1 DEM's and probably wouldn't fit well with the previous route. I'm building it in TRS2006 so I don't think it will work in 04...sorry.

The bridge is up ahead...just around the bend...:)

I believe we understand your chairman. Everybody knows you own the business ter no need to constantly type it at the end of your post, you should insert it to your sig or something. Be easier.. :)

Zorronov, your route is going to be most impressive, I have always been intrigued by the CSX operations along the Hudson. Hey I have something to send ya, pm me.
