I gota say, I am from the Hudson Valley and I ride those rails all the time on the Metro North and you have done a fantastic job replicating the area. So well that I can recognize specific locations in your pictures. GREAT WORK!! I'm looking forward to a release however near or far.

I didn't mean to be rude by not responding to your posts sooner...been a bit busy this week.

gisa...thanks mate! I always appreciate your appreciation. :)

Joe...that's very good to hear. I have to do some fudging here and there, but I have a lot of resources...hundred's of photos, about 25 books, and over 7 hours of video to help. This summer, my wife and I are planning on taking a trip to the Hudson Highlands. I feel as if I have already been there. Well, actually I have, but that was back in 1969, so it's a bit hazy...:D

I'll be posting more screenshots soon, as I work my way up the River Line to Iona Island.

Cheers,
Fred

Coal To Tompkins Cove

Thanks Tom and Andy! I took that one while on a short break from modeling the Indian Point nuclear power plant on the east shore of the Hudson. Gmax was giving me a headache (or maybe it was the rads :hehe: ). The conventional power plant at Tompkins Cove, which has been recently dismantled, will be at the southern end of the River Line side of this layout.

Cheers,
Fred

I've never been happy with my texturing job along the riverbank, so I've started making some new textures...

Fred. Those C30-7s In Conrail just made that route. Look at those FDLs just spit, sputter and cough smoke! haha.
Awesome work Fred, this is truly a winner.

Thanks Davis and Sean. Yeah...I've been wanting some C30's for quite awhile now. Conrail trimmed the cowcatchers so they could go down into third rail territory on the Hudson Line side of the river. I like 'em! One of the many reasons I chose to model the Hudson Highlands was the variety of motive power and rolling stock that can be used here. Expect some CP, UP, BN, ATSF, SP, Metro North, Amtrak, and others along the way. :)

Cheers,
Fred

P.S. Oh...and NYC...of course!

My opinion says those are the best so far, as far as I can tell with the magnification and all that.

In my humble opinion, they all look good, but this last set really does look like rocks. Great shots as always!

Thanks, Gisa! I always appreciate your enthusiasm and interest. I like giving myself a big project, learning the skills I need as I go along. If you look back at the start of this thread, I think you'll see that it has evolved considerably since the first creation of the DEM map. Some things work...some don't. No worries...I learn from my mistakes. I've had a lot of help along the way...from gfisher, bendorsey, bdaneal, slavedriver, and others. The time finally comes, however, when the "Tom Sawyer" routine isn't enough, so I'm learning to make my own custom content...Gmax and all! :) This has been my first foray into creating custom textures. Actually, it's a lot of fun!

My pleasure Fred. I really admire your positive attitude. I find myself busy these days and my own route building slow and limited, which rubs off on me in a negative way. Oh how I wish I had used a DEM or what not...I think that when I retire someday and have the time and the computer (hopefully much faster than the one I have now) I will start to learn all these small things to make my own stuff. For now, I must borrow. Positivity is infectious I think, so I hope some of that will rub off on me. ^^

I like your quote! Keep up the great work and of course, keep the screens coming! ^^
