An NYC Pacific heads out onto the causeway at Peekskill, NY, steaming to Chicago with the 20th Century Limited.

Id say, Zor it looks amazing but it looks like it could be dressed up alot more, I would add more ground textures so no two spots are the same, adding shrubs and weeds help, signs speed signs, gantrys signals etc and small stuff helps, adn the occasional social stuff (Cars, barrels, trash, random stuff):)

Thanks FRM. I agree completely. My intention is to add the little details once the global stuff is out of the way. I've been working on Peekskill, Roa Hook, and Manitou on the Hudson Line lately. Then, of course, there's the River Line on the other side of the Hudson...lot's to do...but having a blast doing it. Once I have the big stuff out of the way I'll also have a better handle on how the framerates are going. So far they're just fine. FPS between 65 and 95 on this machine. My goal is to keep them at 40 so trainzers with midrange computers can still have fun with it. :)

Yea, are you going to GCT? and also the human eye cant see the difference after 30fps

This route isn't particularly long yet (just a few miles so far) but it certainly is wide. It's really two routes in one...on the east shore...the Hudson Line with mostly passenger traffic and a few freights on double and triple track. On the west shore... the River Line...30+ freights a day on single track (intermodal, mixed, autoracks, sulfuric acid, a few coal, and even some carnival and circus trains). As more modular sections are added the route will get longer as well.

An Amtrak train heads north out of Peekskill, NY, on the Hudson Line...

Ten minutes later, the Amtrak passes the small Metro North station at Manitou, NY, carrying its passengers toward Breakneck Ridge, while a mixed freight runs parallel on the opposite bank toward West Point and Storm King Mountain.

P.S. There were many more freights on the Hudson Line in NYC days. Now most freights run at night in order to keep the tracks clear for Amtrak and Metro North commuter trains, and, also, to avoid the 60 car daytime limit on consists imposed by Metro North. There are still, however, occasional daytime freights.

I like how on your layout you can change the time period so easily. Both present and past locomotive look great on your route! A absolute download.

The Indian Point nuclear plant is only 1 mile from where this screenshot was taken and will be included in the route. The conventional coal power plant at Tompkins Lake will be at the southern end of the River Line on the west shore. That's as far south as I'm planning on going, with portals to Harmon and New Jersey from there. After I finish this area it will be "Go West, Young Man!"...errrr I mean north. :)

i was looking at these shots and one of the shots has a striking resemblance of the trains at bear mountain, the bridge, and the trains across the other island. Is this layout part of new jersey too?

This route includes both shores of the Hudson River and everything in between. I know...a little crazy eh? But...what the heck...I say go for it! The River Line will not go down to NJ but there will be a portal at the south end. I mispoke earlier when I said that this is two routes in one...it's actually three. There is an invisible track in the middle of the river for driveable boats and ships. :)

One more thought...in this thread I will be posting screenshots of the route as it develops "warts and all". Any suggestions and comments will be welcome...positive AND negative...because that's the way I think it should be done.
