How to trigger xing gates earlier

So I got gate crossings on the route I'm working with, and I was wondering how to trigger them earlier? As it is right now they are on a 55 mph mainline, and the gates are just starting to come down as I cross them. I want to make them come down earlier. I know you can use a trigger, I just don't know how to do it. :o

move the triggers back in surveyor, you can setup your own crossings using items in game
you need

under track mode, you need the track eraser
under object mode choose your grade crossings for each side of the track(crossing gates)
under object mode ATLS controller
under object mode ATLS controller slave
under trackside mode ATLS trigger
these are the things you need to setup a successfull crossing, drag them over to your favorites list

The only way to trigger them sooner is to use the ATLS triggers and then use the car stopper to connect the road to, to stop the cars, unless you're using a crossing with the road and track already on them, in which case just follow Boats instructions.
There are instructions in pdf format here http://www.boatztrainz.co.uk/tutorials.htm
There are also more instructions included in each ATLS asset that you will need to view in surveyor by pressing the properties button (?) in surveyor when configuring them. It looks complicated when you first start setting one up but once you set one or two up it's easy.

I've been working with the ATLS system all morning. I got the crossing set up (easily) and now my gates come down perfectly before the trains gets there! Works SUPER!

I tried making a custom angle crossing. Worked with that quite a while. I can get the cars to STOP at the crossing I've set up. Actually they stop even if there's no train coming thru. And after the trains goes through, the cars never continue on their merry way. They just sit ther at the xing.

Is there another tutorial somewhere that shows how to set up a custom angle crossing?

Thanks everyone.

Dave

Have the cars got any gas in them, with the price of gas these days? lol. I don't know but maybe make sure the car stoppers that the roads are connected to slaves, crossing slaves, triggers, and controller for that crossing are all on the same channel. Then also make sure no other crossings are on the same channel.
Also make sure there are no trains parked in between the triggers when a session is started and don't reverse between triggers or weird things will happen.
As far as a tutorial the angle and straight are set up the same way.

Okay, thanks. I got it figured out. These forums sure are worth their salt!

Cheers,

Great I'm glad you got it working. Hopefully this thread will help others who are trying to figure ATLS out as well.
Now that you've got the basics down there's another new asset that you can add to the mix. Its called the ATLS Corrector 76656:500029. It looks like a big green triangle. Just place it on the track next to the triggers, as per the instructions that come with it, it will attempt to correct the script when you have a train parked in between the trigger's at start up, or when you change direction before clearing the triggers. I've found that it works pretty good.

Thanks, Clem (I think I remember that is your name!:o ). I will definitely use that. I am also looking at your crossing accessories for the ATLS system, i.e., the crossbucks, catwalks, etc. for creating crossings at angles other than what is supplied as "standard."

While we are talking about ATLS. I recently tried this sytem for a simple crossing and was VERY pleased at the end product. went to the DLS and grabbed everything tha had ATLS in it, and now have all I need to almost perfectly recreate a rather unusual double RR crossing from my home town in Meriden, Connecticut. Only thing missing would be a pair of yellow cased no left/right turn suspended warning boxes. But any way I would like to say thank you so very much to Boatz/BNSF50 for all the great assets so far and am looking foward to any future add ons for this wonderful system.:Y: Oh, and the ASB system is my next set to play with.

I think someone else last week asked for those too. I believe BNSF50 was involved with another project but implied that they might be "on the list". You may have to be patient for those.....

Yes, indeed.

I requested these along with a custom crossing a few days ago. He said he could possibly work these out after finishing up with his current project.
