How to put ground texture on its own layer?

Hi All; i am wondering if there is any way to paint ground texture onto its own layer so that it can be turned on and off? I tried creating a layer called texture, did some painting and then turn the layer off but the texture remained. I then turned all my layers off but the texture still showed. So does anyone know a way that the texture can be applied so that it can be turned on and off?

Thanks.

No. The ground is not part of any layer. Notice that you can apply ground textures when all layers are locked from editing and still see ground textures when all layers are invisible. Finally, deleting all layers does not affect the ground textures. Your best bet is to switch to wireframe view to hide all textures.

I never texture a route until it is completed, and all trackwork has been finished. I adjust my terrain heights, and "smooth spline" the track embankments.

There is a texture named: Grid, and by setting the scale to minimum, it repaints the bare baseboard grid back on.

If you go into wireframe view, and dial the time of day to a semi sweet dark chocolate color (@ 5:30 AM) it is easier on your eyes ... Mmmmm Chocolate :udrool:

Thanks for the replies. I was wanting to paint the ground first and add features afterwards but I guess I will do the painting last. Never thought of it replacing the grid so in effect it is a base board effect and not an asset per say.
