How to download 2009?

My last disastrous attempt to download T.C. resulted in error messages. Followed by Vista deciding it was not playing and shutting down, losing everything I had downloaded. £15 down the drain. Heavens, I nearly swore!

Now recovered enough to try my lack knowledge on 2009.
When you download do you run it or save it? If you save it do you have to use a special program to open it. I am using PeaZip.which, your right, confuses me.
Then do you look for a exe. folder and click it?
Lastly,do I have to do anything with the already installed 2006?

Cheers.

Save it, definitely, for several reasons. Saving allows you to virus scan it before you run it, to save a safety copy of it onto DVD etc, and to install it again in the future if you need to.

Use a Download Manager program. One was recommended for downloading the beta but I don't know if the release version download page has that information or not. If not, someone here who remember what the program was can advise you. A Download Manager program allows you to resume from the point of failure if the download keels over, and it may speed up the process as well.

If you save it do you have to use a special program to open it.
That depends what type of file it is that you download. If it's an exe, then no, just double-click it. If it's a zip, yes, extract its contents. (Perhaps someone who's downloaded the release version can explain more.)

But before you open it, virus scan it (you should always do this with anything you download no matter how much you trust the source, as they could be infected and not yet realise it, although that is exceedingly unlikely with a professional company such as Auran).

Also, before you open it, save it. There are various ways, such as:
Copy it to another physical hard disk if you've got one with enough space. Copying it to another partition on the same physical disk is a poor second option here. Copying it to another folder on the same drive letter is a very poor third.
Or burn it to DVD.
Or copy it onto a USB memory key.
Or do all of these, because you can never have too many backups.

Then do you look for a exe. folder and click it?
When you save it, create a new folder with a meaningful name then you won't have to search.

BTW, there's no such thing as a exe folder. exe signifies a type of file, not a type of folder.

Lastly,do I have to do anything with the already installed 2006?
No, but it might be worth doing a routine backup of anything you've downloaded or created yourself in TRS2006, just in case. Paranoia is always wise with Auran's installation routines :)
