How to do Custom Soud Packs?

I am looking for a way to extract sounds and stuff from Trainz Simulator 12. I would like to make an HQ sound pack for Trainz any ideas on how I can extract the sounds? I am also getting into Game Audio Engineering and would like to make a decent sound pack.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by extracting the sounds to make a sound pack. In trainz, there really isn't a "sound pack", each asset references KUIDs for the specific sounds it uses. You can always find that through CMP and open the asset for editing to see how it is structured and use that as a base to make your own sound assets.

To open an asset:
Go to Content manager
Find an asset with a sound file e.g a locomotive. You may need to search for one or even have a look under the 'Today' tab and if there is a loco listed there [check the icon on the LH side if you dont recognise a name] download it and use it for your trial
Right click on it and then move to Open for Edit or alternatively Open in Explorer
In the list of files that come up there should be a .wav file. That is the sound file
If you have Audacity installed copy it into it to hear the sound. If you dont have Audacity you may need top download install it.

Making assets is a whole new ball game and the domain of guys with artistic fair who have skills on G-Max and such programs. Not me, but there are others who contribute to this forum who have that expertise. I see you are new with only a few posts so suggest you keep reading various forum posts and you will soon see discussion by some of these people who may put you on the right track. Cheers

The format for sound files in Trainz is: .wav files uncompressed 16bit PCM (8bit supported ?).
Most sounds are (or have to be) mono, one exception are environmental sounds.

Any way to change this to opus cause, they are best quality having everything 8bit makes me have nothing to work with at all? Just wonderng if there is a way to improve this cause the Sim has bad quality of sound it sounds low quality very bad for a decent Sim Opus should be used its 10x better at what your low rates are? also don't mind doing sound or another sound pack in opus if you guys wanna work together on that would love to help lout and improve Traiz just trying to bring quality to all Trainz Owners.

Unless there has been major changes for T:ANE, there won't be any changes to TS12. Sounds are one of those things that kind of took a back burner position for Auran & N3V Both. They focused on making a good looking simulation and World Editor/Creator.

If you really are working to become a Game Audio Engineer, then a big part of that is incorporating your sounds into whatever framework the game has to work with. If you want to improve Trainz, work with whats given and try to find new ways to improve its sound without eating too many system resources. Scripting sounds is just as important as Capture and Playback quality for instance....

Ultimately, I kind of agree with you, alot of the sounds in this simulator aren't that great. The best are usually the result of Payware Firms/Groups spending alot of time trying to Monkey with things. I too would like to see improvement on this score, but I'm not holding my breath, and ultimately am content with what I have and with what N3V/Auran are likely to continue providing....

Whatever you decide to do, good luck,
Falcus

I would not be satisfied over 125 dollars with DLC, and the sound quality are junk wow, there is no way you can improve anything it's almost like NR2003 not worth modding for at all ill continue my work with SMS Railroads at least they got the engine right, Also the quality can be in surround. I also don't think I should have to spend over 125 on the new game also its not my job to code its my job to Engineer Audio for games, I am willing to do HQ sounds but the companies must give us something to work with that's quality like stereo sounds surround would be nice, but the issues are these companies only support wav and wav vs opus opus wins. Why not go with Quality? Furthermore, how can I add opus support to this game, there is no source code at all.
