That might depend on your keyboard configuration, on a US keyboard it's shift+3. However you do not have to use the # sign, you can use N6 for north6 or SW8 for southwest8 or anything similar to these.

On a standard 'QWERTY' keyboard, the # is next to the large 'ENTER' key.

But a French keyboard is an AZERTY one. According to a Google search it seems to be on the 3 key and is accessed by Alt-Gr + 3.
