Trainz Of ATL

Hello! this is my first thread and I really need some help. So I have both ts10 and ts12. Today, I have been downloading from jointedrail ( great content ) and I wanted to download to my ts 10. But instead, the engine was downloadedto ts12 :( . Can anyone help me switch to ts10 downloads? what are you supposed to do to switch from one trainz to another? The helpdesk was of no help ( like always ) because it rejected my password for no reason. If anyone could help me switch downloading from ts12 to ts10 since I need more trains in ts10, then that would be great! THANKS!!! :D

Not quite sure what you mean since you mentioned Jointedrail. I'm guessing you downloaded .cdp files.

Open whichever version's Content Manager and drag and drop the files onto the window of CM. They will install into that version.

check your downloads folder in my computer / computer and the cdps should be in there and just install them to ts10

its more complicated.....

when i download, it dosent go to my downloads file, it just goes straight to my ts12. do you know how to make it download to my downloads file?:(

Depends, are you using Internet Explorer or Firefox? For Firefox click Tools, Options, Applications, scroll down to find Trainz and reset that to "Always ask".

That's not what he's asking, once you have the CDP on your desktop or in a downloads folder, there are several ways to install it. Problem is I install TS2010, it automatically configures Firefox to Open With CM 3.3 for any CDP file, instead of just saving the file. Install TS12 and that installation overrides the previous one, now any file with a CDP extension gets automatically installed to TS12. If I want to just download the CPD and install it manually, I have to change the options in Firefox to "Always Ask" so it doesn't just install it to TS12.

He's asking how you reset Internet Explorer, and I don't have a clue. The main reason I use Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/ in the first place is because Internet Explorer is insanely clumsy, complicated, and full of security holes. I just spent 20 minutes trying to find how to change the download setting in IE8 help file, no luck there, and googling "download settings internet explorer" turns up a zillion hits with different methods depending on which version you have, most involving system registry hacks. There has to be a simple way to reconfigure IE (well, maybe not, it IS microsoft who never heard of "simple") for where and how it downloads files, but I'll be hanged if I can find it.

Ah - resetting Internet Explorer (one of my areas)

It depends on version.

Before IE7: Not sure.
IE7/8/9: should be either in Tools menu, or Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset... (at the bottom of the box) - for IE9, it's in the second location.

Shane

EDIT: The download location is either a temporary folder if open/run is chosen, or wherever the user chooses if Save is used.

I have found that the IE & Explorer will always load any add-ons to the last version of trainz that you loaded, be it older or newer, so if you last loaded TS12 and then you load TS10 after it, the down load would go to TS10 and not TS12.

If you have bought an add on game, you should be given a chance to alter the path your self at the installation stage.

If it's a CDP file and for what ever reason the above suggestion's don't work, or you just don't know yet, how to make them work, you could un-install TS10 and then re-install to the exact same place, that should work, with minimal loss, if any. but this is very drastic, and you should backup the [user file] just in case.

My advice would be to have a good tinker around with a loaded version of trainz that you don't need, and use it for experimenting on.

Edit.... that'll teach me to go and have a cup of tea!

You have mail.
Copy the body of the text into an empty notepad file and modify the line which includes the Trainz folder to reflect the installation you wish to use.
Rename the file trainz.reg (Only the extesion is important) Double click the file, the details are entered into your Windows registry and the problem is solved. To swap to another installation simply modify the installation path in the folder and run the script again.
Hope this helps, it works well for me.
