How do "Wait For" and "Wait For Time" commands work?

I am trying to figure out how these commands work. "Wait for Time" does not seem to do anything. "Wait For" puts the train on endless hold.

My real question is this: As an example, how do I tell a train "Wait here until 3:20am, then continue with the next instruction" ?

Dean just to correct one of your statements "Wait for" does not just put the trains on endless hold,if you click on "wait for" you will get a dropdown list of times from 5 seconds up to a couple of hours,I use them all the time,
for example to start a session I allways give the train/tram a 30sec wait,gives the computer time to cache all ( or most of )the background scenary to appear,and when wanting to give the command Change direction or reverse Tram give 5 or 10 sec before the next command makes the AI more realistic (it needs all the help it can get).
The "Wait for time "? command I don't use, so cannot comment.

PS.I have just had a look at the other "Wait For" Commands available,they are "Wait For Trigger"For a trigger that is set off by a another Train. "Wait until"Will probably have a dropdown time list as well, & "Wait until Minute" One of these commands may be what you need to use.

"Wait for time" I use it when I want to schedule a Consist to start in accordance with a Time table. It is set with hours and minutes.
Put it in front of other commands

I usually have a Hours command, then Minutes command, followed by Horn the Auto Drive command................etc

As Norm points out, it looks as though I confused "Wait For" with "Wait Until." I don't fully understand any of these wait commands.

JackDownUnder, I have tried the "Wait Until Time", but the trains never seem to do anything after I give them a time. Also, after giving them a time, is it possible to see what time they are supposed to wait until? I don't see how. I don't understand why this has to be so complicated. It seems as though this should be a simple command.

As my original post states: How can I just give a train a command of "Wait here until 4:25am, then continue with the next command" ?

This is exactly what your AI are doing. The AI have been given the command to wait until a particular time. If the time has passed, well they'll wait until that time comes around again.

Let's say you've setup a train schedule to run at 6:00 am. If your current time is 10:00 am, the AI will wait and do nothing until the next 6:00 am comes around again.


The Wait for command is great for starting and controlling the AI, as Norm says. I too use this for exactly the same kind of operation. You put this command, like many others in the driver command schedule. When you place the command, there's a fly-out on the right side that lists the number of seconds, minutes and hours to wait for before doing anything. I for example use Wait for 10 secs at the beginning of my train schedules to let the simulator "settle down" before running. This seems to make for smoother operation overall.

When you select the driver command wait until, place the hour one first then the minute one. Trains will continue with the next commands when time has passed. The wait until commands will allow trains to proceed if they arrive late, but if they are very late they will have to wait until the time comes around again. In the driver command list the time should be visible.

I have been experimenting with these commands. "Wait Until Time" still does not seem to do anything. I have a real problem with "Wait Until." When I use it, the hour, then minute menus fly-out, but I cannot select any of them. No matter what I seem to do, the AI train just has a "Wait Until" command listed, but then does not do anything. Also, after I give them the cammons, when I try to see what time they are supposed to wait until, all it says is "Wait Until." It seems as though I am giving the AI train a "Wait Until" instruction, but not telling it when to stop waiting, so it always waits.

How do I select the hours and minutes on the fly-out menus?

Wait until time it seems will only work if your time rate is set at x1. Look on the DLS for wait until hour and wait until minute These are the ones I use and have not had problems in any version of trainz so far.

Thank you Stagecoach, I will try your suggestion with "Wait Until Hour" and "Wait Until Minute".

I never use anything but time rate at 1x and I still can't get "Wait Until" or "Wait Until Time" to work. I have tried various things such as the following: The time is 10:45. I give a train a command of "Wait Until" 11, then "Drive To" X. The train waits there, long after 11, even an hour later, and it still waits. I have tried this various ways, and every time, the train gets stuck in an endless hold.
