well, there's several ways to go about it, but Gmax and the Trainz Asset Creation Studio is the ususal (and free) way to do it. The Trainz Asset Creation Studio is a Gmax plug-in that should be included on your CD's.
That said, you have to create your station, texture it and package it for exporting to trainz. You have to use the Trainz Asset Creation Studio for exporting to Trainz. You also have to construct a config file.
I suggest that you read the Content Creation Guide as a start that gives you the basics on types of content and how to set them up to run in Trainz.
There are a lot of threads on the forum about Gmax. You can create your model in any 3d program that will export in a .dxf format as Gmax will import .dxf files.
I suggest that you look at the kuid folder of a station that you've downloaded and see how it's set up and then, as I said, study the Content Creation Guide and work some of the tutorials available at some of the third party websites. I believe Auran has some tutorials also.
Hope this helps you get started.

Well that's one way to do it and how I usually go about too but if you're just beginning, you could always start by using existing objects and putting them together in different and interesting ways to create your stations. As you get better with GMax, you can them start to build custom made objects. :)

stations - and things

I make a lot of stations and other facilities. I do not use G-max or any other max...
On my WCL1 section (the first section of the route from Paddington to Penzance) some buildings were made for me by a kind and I think very clever person who shall remain annon...
But most were made on my PC by using assets freely available on the DS. A for instance is Ealing Broadway which is a fairly complex place and completely made from DS assets.
When I go into Trainz later this morning I will note some of the kuids for you and post the list. That will get you started.
But mainly and as a route creator, you will have to learn to use your imagination and search for assets that are suitable for your purpose at the time.
Try not to get stuck in the habit of making stations the same though, it's an easy thing to fall into doing.
May I suggest you start a new route of a single board and use this to experiment on. It will open quickly whereas a full scenic route will take time which means you can get on with your experiment quicker. I use this method a lot to sort out a sticky problem.

a list

Here are a few to start you off. What I also suggest is that you do a search on the DS for stations, termini or terminus and platforms.

All assets are 1942 kuids. So the first part is 1942:xxxxx (x's are the rest of the number).

28223
28224
28173
28174
28176
28175
28178
28038
28223
28234
28128
28131
28129
28007
28009
37015 (spline)
37027 (spline)
37028 (spline)
From those parts you should be able to make a variety of stations. You will need to search again for station buildings, but the word station should bring a good few up.

Quick and easy start - use the supplied default modular platforms and ramps. The platform sections are splines so can be customised to fit your track curvature and the ramps are in the solid scenery items.

Don't overlook the invisible passenger active stations. The hard work has been done for you.

Invisibles

I think John refers to the invisible station on the DS. You will find them if you search on the kuid 122285. For instance the one in the picture is 122285:3320:10

You will see here there are 3 of those invisibe stations side by side. Working from the right you can also see how track is laid by first click the track type you have selected onto the centre of the station beside the platform. You will also see this has a 'direction' as indicated by the feint white arrows.
As the sequence progresses I have added the lower section of track then the upper, but always working with the 'direction'. Track has a built in direction so it is best to use single rather than the double track units. Trains will sense which direction the track has and autoatically run that way.
When you place a piece of stock on track it will always face the way of the 'direction', that's how it works out which way to face.
So in the UK trains run clockwise round track, or using the old BR 2 arrows logo left to right on the upper arrow, and that's how you should also lay track.
Once you have got hold of that lay in the platforms. Experiment a bit until you get the hang of it.

Hope that helps.

another way

Here are some sacreenies of station part built.

station1.jpg

This is the basic Exeter Central but I have added an MS Platform and a building not yet in position. The track is basic Auran and will change to whatever type you use once you connect.

station3.jpg

I have added in part another of the MS single platforms so you can see that if the gap is too wide use more than one, or either of the wider MS platforms. The building is now besdie the platform.

station4.jpg

Now a canopy is added, a static object, but there are splines as well of various canopies.

station5.jpg

As can be seen by the canopy at the front.

station6.jpg

And here are a couple of readily available pre-made stations off the DS.

Routes

Hello Andrew,
The WCL1 and WCL2 (still under construction) are very large sections of a huge undertaking. Try to realise that I did not start these projects soon after getting into Trainz, but several years later. It is far better to begin with a smaller route and learn and then slowly progress onto larger ones than try to go big straight away.
I know the temtation is there but you will find it very difficult until you have learned many of the basics and only use and time will give you that knowledge.
Do a DS search with my username (angelah), I have some small routes that incorporate all the same ideas and methods used in the big Paddington-Reading route and they should run better on your PC. Look at files sizes and choose a small one. One like Aleard & Hallington for instance.
If you have problems with stuttering go to the top of the left side of the screen in Driver and click the Performance tab. In there you can downgrade the Draw Distances and add Daytime Fog, both of these will help increase the speed the routes will run at, it's called frame rates. You can also set these in Surveyor.

I do have all the sections of the route from Paddington through to Penzance kindly produced for me by a forum member into DEM maps, these are the white parts of that route outside the scenic area. But at my age and considering the time taken to create each section I don't think I will ever be able to finish it all. And merging two sections together would only add to the slowness of a PC, bearing in mind that trains will be running from both ends. I dread to think of the performance settings needed to run the whole shooting match! A PC built in heaven I should think.
You will need a lot of patience in Trainz. It is quite a complicated program and you will need to learn a lot, but that's the challenge, isn't it, learning the skills that will enable you to build better and bigger routes. Get a spare board up like the one I used in the pictures here and experiment, you will learn a lot and get used to all the various functions much easier.

Ramps

Thanks for your help everyone.
I have made a station: st germans. seems to working fine.

Sorry Another Question: How do i make ramps at the platform end?

Sorry Another Question: How do i make ramps at the platform end?
Either by lowering part of the spline
----+----------------
The ----+ is the lowered bit of the spline.Another idea is to put a ramp object at the end of the platform.
Hope this helps,
shikadi
