How do i get my trainz content back?

Californian Trainzer
hello All:

Due to the mishap of the 40400 patch , my trainz does not run, and i had some important routes i was in the process of uploading to the dls .

can someone help me get my trainz content back !

Andre

Unless you saved them as a seperate CDP or on another disk and have TRS re-installed and running, then you will not be able to get them back unfortunatley.

Take care,

Ryan:wave:

Before doing anything else, take a backup copy of the "Local" and "Editing"
folders from within your TS2009 program folder.

Once you have these backed up safely, uninstall, reinstall and patch Trainz as appropriate. Once you're happy that everything's working, you can drop the backup folders onto the Content Manager main window to reinstall your old content. Reinstallation of the content set may take several hours.

patch again

This is a load of crap we pay good money to buy a program then along comes someone saying this and that is not right and puts out a patch which has caused more trouble than enough and all the work i have done for 3 months on something i was working on is lost thanks for nothing weejock

@weejock

If you read WindWalker's post above you will see that nothing is lost, just do as he suggests and all will be fine. I have done it many times whilst testing the Public Beta patches and have never lost a piece of content.

I keep a external hard drive and I backup my local file every so-often that way if my main internal hard drive sould go down I can always start over agane from my last backup point.:)

patch wiped me out completely

I trusted you, and your patch completely wiped out everything. The patch locked-up numerous times. Even my TRAINZ 2009 folder is completely gone from the C: Drive. Everything!!! Everything!!! Seven months, and hundreds, and hundreds of hours of intense work, wiped away. This layout was massive, and very detailed. I've been a TRAINZ enthusiast since day-one. If you had any doubts whatsoever concerning the safety of the patch, we should've received a warning before downloading. Always in a hurry to release the new version by a certain date, whether it's ready or not. " We'll come up with a quick-fix later." Well, you really fixed things big-time. Save your patches, and anything else that you may think that I need in the future. I have absolutely NO TRUST in you at all. Thanks for nothing!! Writing this angry letter saddens me terribly, for I've always admired and respected you people. I realize now that you're just a business, with deadlines, just like everyone else, but you totally destroyed my trust, just like my layout. I would expect bogus crap like this from Microsoft, but not from you. I always thought that you were more professional. Well, you have my money. I guess that's all that matters.

Some comments remind me of a scene I watched involving a neighbor family years ago.....a mom was watching her son ride his new bike. The boy got about 20 yards from his mom when he tried to pop a wheelie and fell over.....he got up crying and yelled at his mom that it was her fault because she bought him a bike that wouldn't do a wheelie....:'(

Wow,....... So you thought you were bullet proof did you?
Well now you know better, and no I’m not entirely heartless to your plight, I to have lost a massive map that gave me endless hours of fun.
I see that this is your first post here; if you had joined in with us more often you would have found out how to avoid such problems.
Don’t be a loaner we can help each other.
But I fear that I’m talking to my self, and you just wanted someone to take it out on, and you'll never bother to read any of this.

I have read this maybury, and I really do appreciate your feedback. I realize that I've been " skating on thin ice " for quite some time. I've had issues w/ my back-up hard-drive for a while, and luckily I just found a folder last night, that was saved there 5 months ago. It's still better than completely starting over. I recently had a layout on TRAINZ 2004, that I had worked on for 5 years. One route was 123 scale miles long. Total track mileage was approx. 320 miles. ( No B.S.. ) My computer tech was speechless when he saw the size of the file. I lost it also when the drive crashed. That's why I went so ballistic about this incident. On a different note, I've had an ongoing problem for the past 2 months. I'd be in the Driver mode, and hit a certain spot on the layout, and would have an error, where everything would freeze. The message would say something to the effect that the " memory could not be read ", and have a bunch of numbers. ( If anyone has an idea as to what that means, please elaborate. ) I thought that downloading the patch may eliminate that problem. ( You're right, I am a loner, and I shouldn't be. ) We all have the same common interest, and a love for simming, and trains. I love doing this more than anything! -Braymanj

and to that guy that thinks auran trainz forum member trainzamtrakfan is me ... you are very incorrect , i don't know you trainzamtrakfan . but i seen your posts and look nothing like mine ,so you are now listening to the one and only disturbnthapeace

I find this thread quite unbelievable. Any programmer in his or her right mind should go to great pains to ensure the integrity of user imputed data. Can you imagine what would happen if an update to MSWord or Excel wiped every document or spreadsheet from your hard disk?

Even the worst written patch should automatically back up vital user data to a temporary directory and reinstall it when the patch is completed. No patch on earth should destroy your work, yet here you all are telling me this is what will happen if you don't back up first.

Experienced computer users understand the meaning of backing up, but newbies, novices or people like me who get their car serviced by a mechanic, expect the software developer to show a duty of care.

Can someone with a knowledge of this patch please tell me that what I'm reading here isn't true? If it is true, that the patch will destroy a folder containing user data, can someone please explain why this has been allowed to happen?
