How do I couple a loco to an existing consist

I've set up a terminus station in TRS2006. I'd like to know how to couple a loco to an existing consist that has already arrived at the terminus ie: couple the new loco to the last coach in the consist then drive to destination leaving the original consist loco at the terminus. I've tried a number things but the loco will not couple to the last coach. Help!

Hi Dno_S,

Welcome to the forums, you will find that lots of people will be willing to help you overcome beginer's problems.

The sequence of commands required to carry out the above are, first loco, drive to stationxx, terminate passenger train, uncouple, wait for xxmin.
second loco, couple to vehicle xxx or couple at trackmarkxx, wait for xxseconds, drive toxxx.

To accomplish this you should have a trigger in the station that will be activated by the first loco when it arrives and which will start the second loco's commands. It is very important to have the first loco uncoupled before the second loco couples. It would also be advantageous to have a trackmark near the end of the train when it stops in the station. With a trackmark at the end of the train you can use the couple at trackmark command which means you don't have to know the name of the vehicle on the end of the train.
I think I still have a small example layout on my machine that I can send you if you still have trouble, only problem is it is in TRS2004 but you should be able to import it to 2006.

Hi Bill69,

Thanks for your post. I've already tried the method you suggest but with no luck as the signals stop the loco from coupling to the coach. I did manage to get it to work with the Path Rule but TRS2006 crashed and now it wont work with the path rule either. No matter what i do the train is always waiting for track clearence.

It seems that the only other way is not to use signals, but whats the point in TRS2006 if in some cases you cant have signals. Surely there must be a patch or a new command that someone has come up with to solve this issue.

Hi Bill69,

I've managed to get round the problem, 'DONT USE CONSISTS' for terminus. For some reason the consist(or AI) wont allow another loco to couple to coaches or other rolling stock in the existing consist. By not using a consist you are able to direct the passenger train to the terminus, uncouple the loco and then couple the new loco to the last coach. Theres also no problems with signals not allowing the loco to couple. Sorted.

Hi Dno S,

Glad you managed to make it work. I have done similar operations in 2004, 2006 and 2009 and find although there is a bit of a delay as the second loco couples it works every time.

Cheers,

Another way is to use the command, couple to vehicle in front/behind signal (you have to name the signal).

I thought I had resolved the problem, but no! It works a couple of times then stops.

Hi Fran1 thanks for the post, I'm not able to use the command you mention as it's not on my TRS2006. Is it a command I get get from the DLS?

Does anybody know how to change the characteristics of shunt/ ground signals(semaphore)?
