How can I use content manager in My First Trainz Set and other Trainz games with inaccessible content managers?

I want to try to open the content managers of the smaller trainz games to see what content they have in there and to test adding the routes and other content to other, bigger Trainz releases, such as Trainz 2010. Does anyone know if it is possible? Has anyone had the same question I have right now?

Your terminology is a bit confusing. "smaller trainz games" - I am guessing that you mean older Trainz versions??? such as older than Trainz 2010?

It has been about 15 years since I owned Trainz 2010 so I cannot even recall if it came with a version of Content Manager (probably not or it may have had an early version).

The only way that I can think of to identify the Trainz version that an asset was created for is to look at its build numbers.

Assets with build numbers up to and including 3.4 will run in the last release (SP) of Trainz 2010 and later but will not work in older Trainz versions. Up to 3.1 will run in the last release (SP) of Trainz 2009 but not earlier. Up to 2.6 will run in the last release (SP) of Trainz 2006 but not earlier. Up to 2.4 will run in the last release (SP) of Trainz 2004 but not earlier.

Of course, many of these build numbers will also work in the later versions of Trainz - for example my Trainz Plus, which has an asset build number of 5.6, has many older assets with build numbers down to 1.3 which work as well (if not as efficiently) as those assets with build 5.6

The way I read the OP question is if there is a CM for earlier versions. Basically NO. TRS2004 had something called TrainzObjects made by TafWeb which provided some way to manage the content. TRS2006 had the first attempt at a native Content Manager

TS2010 has a content manager similar to the one used by TRS2006 through TS12.

With modern Trainz versions, you need to install and run the program as an administrator. Your video card and drivers also need to support Open/GL even though Open/GL isn't needed to run TS2010 it's used by Content Manager.

TRS2004 does have a content manager. It's called Content Dispatcher and requires advanced degrees in electrical engineering and computer science to use. Well, it's not that bad, it just seems that way!

.. smaller trainz games = my 1st trainz set ( like op mentioned), trainz trouble etc ..
1st trainz set : build 51149 has no contentmanager ,
trainz trouble : i dont remember anymore, but i think there was not ..
murchison 2 (stand alone build 43361) : has no content manager ..
..

That’s a solid approach exporting CDP files from the working version and importing them into the other Trainz install is a clean solution. As others have noted in the thread “Do CDP files for Trainz 2019 also work with Trainz 2022?”, dragging and dropping .CDP files into Content Manager generally works well even cross-version. If you're still seeing missing dependencies, just click the red entries and download what's needed.

CDP files from all previous versions work in TRS22 and up.

In older versions of Trainz, the CDP file size is limited to about 512 MB. Even today with Trainz Plus, I keep my CDP files about the same size even though they can be much, much larger.

Y'all might want to click on the link I provided. My First Trainz Set did not include a version of CMP. It looks like there is no way to export, import or connect with the DLS. You get to lay track in the included room environments and run trains. No terrain mod tools and no textures.

Ok, to clear some things up: I did find a version of Content Manager in the files of My First Trainz Set, however it is unable to open, which means there could be some code preventing it from opening. I tried to replace it with another version of content manager, which didn't work, so I am wondering if there is some code preventing it from opening within some other game files or programs. Also the version is one I got off of Amazon, if that helps in any way.

Also, by smaller Trainz versions, I mean ones that have only a small or specific set of content, typically one or a few routes and is installed as a separate program instead of being part of a larger release. They also don't have accessible content managers.
