How can I use a portal to emit unloaded wagons without drivers?

I am trying to keep a number of wagons on hand for an loco with a repetitive schedule using a portal.
However, When in Driver, consists are emitted with a driver. This includes non locos.
My ai can couple and use the cars, but on uncoupling from these emitted cars my schedule gets blown away.
Any clues for the clueless?

Hi,
Off the top of my head, could you get the portal to emit the wagons with an invisible engine at the rear?
(IIRC there are a couple on the DLS)
Then you could ignore the invisible engine, or simple drive to a track mark, decouple the engine and send it off into the portal to vanish.Remember to configure the portal correctly!

Portals need a loco and driver for it to emit a consist as the portal is on a slope. Without the driver the consist would not be able to climb out of the portal. As you have found out it wont work right. As suggested emit a train with the wagons to a yard and then send the loco away.

Doesn't the emit train now rule allow for wagons only?

If I recall, I've done that before for a set of freight cars I wanted to put in a yard for pick-up.

The Re-rail Portal Basic,<kuid2:116387:6:2> by Maggs will emit a single car or a string of cars without a locomotive. You do not need to use the rerail feature of this portal to make it useful. Once they are emitted, they come to a stop just outside the poartal entrance.

The portal will emit wagons but they are only pushed out by the next wagon in the consist being created. Once the last wagon has been created the consist has no power and could roll back into the portal. Short consists would be the worst for this. I seem to recall some early engines with incorrect power being created but not able to leave the portal and just went back in. The portal slopes from the entrance downwards towards the rear if you ever look closely at a consist in the portal.

This is not a problem on the Re-Rail portal. It has the proper code to get a single car or a string of cars out of the portal. Try it. It really does work. And the tracks are perfectly level in a portal. It is the .gs code that is controlling the movements of the train cars in a portal. Not all portal designs use the necessary code to push cars without an engine out of the portal. I have just updated an iPortal to emit a single car. And it works perfectly as does Magg's re-Rail portal.

Thanks folks. I was using the small basic portal.
So all I did was add the loco at the rear and sent it back after delivery. Problem solved.
Thanks again for the ideas.

Stagecoach - This is true of the built-in Auran portal that looks like a tunnel, however, most of the other available portals are nothing more than a level piece of fixed track and will emit wagons without any sort of locomotive as has been suggested above.
