Hot Box Detector

In "track objects" there is the track detector (male + female voice). When setting it up for the mile post, there is box you can check called "hot box detector". What is it?

I think it measures the temperature of the journal box on the rolling stock.
When your bearings go bad, it causes friction which cause heat build-up in the journal box, and the occasional fire. This is called a hot box.

exactly correct Claude!!!
i when working with my father at work in Syaracuse we use them to work safely in the yard.
when a loco passes this it reads the temapature of the wheels. it has to be at a certain tempature or an alarm goes off in the cab of the loco. if you listen to a certain frequncie you can here the drivers talking to eachother. then at points in time a mechanical voice says the hotbox dector # the condition of the train, the direction, the milepost. this help us know what way its coming from, the speed of the loco, and what track its on.
this way me and my father can get out of the way so the train can pass. we also just listen to it to see what going on and know where trains are.
i belive you can get these at TPR. will look they are useful and they give a realistic touch to you route.

Whatever you do, just don't make the mistake one driver did when he got a hotbox in the US and stop on a wooden bridge!!!

After a little while, the bridge succumbed to the fire raging along it's length that, quite clearly, got hot enough to set the coal in the hoppers alight!

LOL! Important safety tip.

When the hot box sez you're too hot, don't stop near anything flamable!! *****************************************************

Thanks for the info.

I'm building a route and tested a detector and yes I put the Hotbox sensitivity to high. I ran 1 unit and about 15 cars over the Detector at 32mph in a 40mph limit. That's when I got an Alarm warning from the computer voice, including what axels were hot. So what trouble shooting must I do in this Circumstances? What keys do I use to check and rectify the problem?

See my response to your other post on mile markers and detectors. I suspect that you do not have to do anything about the "problem".
