Hog Utility Question

Hello,

I'm entirely new to Trainz but not to trainsimming, I'm currently reading through the manual and some tutorials in relation to surveyor after reading so many positive things about it over the years (compared with msts route editor). While I might not get past the basics I can't help but plan ahead for a fictious route, and I've found the many 'plain' dem terrain provided by 'fishlipsatwork', and think these might come in very handy. These are described as '...being generated using Hog Utility and has tiger vector data overlaid. You will need the Hog textures to see them in surveyor'.
Could some one please explain what is the Hog utility, and is it freeware? (or is it part of 'TransDEM'?). I guess this might seem a daft question to veteran Trainz folk, but I promise not to ask too many more and to keep reading up!.

Many thanks,

Clay.

HOG data texture files are freeware...However creating a DEM is for PC wizzards, difficult.

Laying track on DEM's is difficult...as the gradients are up and down like a rollercoaster. But a DEM is the way to go...unless you are good at making your own mountains.

Hog is freeware however unless you are creating your own DEM you only need to import the HOG textures using content manager, they are here textures.zip , without them you won't see the HOG lines on fishlipsatwork's dem's. Just drag and drop eacg folder in the zip into content manager is how I added them.

It's probably worth getting hold of the Hog utilities as well though in case you need them later. I use Microdem also freeware and HOG for creating landscapes, slightly more complicated than using Transdem however it does work is free and will work with 2009 despite a post on here somewhere that says it doesnt!
HOG is available here http://trainz.luvr.net/projects-view.php?pid=390

Beaten again lol, still is an alternative source.

Thanks for all the replies which have been great, at the moment I was planning to build a fictious route using the dem data provided by 'fishlipsatwork', (I've done similar things with msts), will possibly try my own demming in the future.

Thanks again,

Clay.
