Hey I was wondering if there are splines/objects on the DLS that are highways and like overpasses, interchanges to make a major highway for my Perth route they can be as close to australian as possible if not anything close.

Kind Regards :D

Check out the YARN assets by Maddy as well as the AASTO by GFisher. These are really nice roads and bridges. They're not Australian, but I think they'll work fine. The YARN assets are particularly nice because they are nice and thick so they don't float above the terrain surface like the older roads do.

Let me guess. You're doing Transperth's Joondalup and Mandurah lines right? :D Great to finally see some more West Aussies here. ;)

If you are making those lines, you'll need either a single-direction roadway spline and lay it on either side of the tracks, or else a freeway spline with a wide median strip in the centre (for the railway). I'm pretty sure there are several items similar to that available on the DLS.

Incidentally, I'm doing a Perth route in TRS04 myself which is only partially complete at the moment - I've only done the Midland, Fremantle and Armadale lines - I haven't even attempted to make a start on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines. Either way, good luck with your Perth route. :)

Im actually from Adelaide but i have the biggest fascination with perths public transport system, its good to see that Adelaide is finally being electrified but there are no big big plans with the rail network like you guys have over there only one major rail extention here. How did you do your Perth Railway station I made Adelaide station but I dont think im game enough to make Perth station and do you have maps of the perth rail layout like juctions and signals?

Kind Regards :D

Actually I kind of took the easy way out and did a 'close enough' rendition of the station using various scenery items from the DLS and inbuilt content (the station building for instance is an Italian station listed on the DLS as 'Central Station' I think). I'm still wondering how I'm going to do the big high trussed station roof though - there is nothing even remotely like it available on the DLS, so I guess I'll just have to improve my lackluster GMAX skills. :p

As for track layouts, I guess it's easier for me though because I ride the Perth system all the time (I live at the end of the Armadale line), to the point I almost have the track layouts down to memory. A street directory was still necessary though, especially when it came to laying the track and roadways.

Another resource I use is John Krietling's excellent book (which is sadly long out of print) Perth Electric ~ A New Era, which detailed the original electrification project, and which included some track layout plans in it. But that was published back in 1991 so that might be very hard to find, especially in Adelaide.

A better source though for you however might be the following website: http://wastations.i8.com/mainpage.html which features images from pretty much all stations on the suburban network, as well as rollingstock images.

Finally, Transperth's official website might also provide some information too, despite being boringly 'government': http://www.pta.wa.gov.au/

Anyway, if you need any more information or assistance, send me a PM or email and I'll be happy to help. :)

Any sign of a completion date? Can't wait for more Perth content

The LP, AASHTO, and the YARN systems are all nice, as well as Mike 10's stuff. Seems like those are about all the roads I use.
Mike 10 seems to have the most parts, roads, and intersections.

All are great, but they all seem to have their own limitations/issues.
(probably shouldn't go into all of that here)

Maddy's YARN system seems to be the nicest looking, and the cars do not disappear at the intersections, but we need more parts, especially more intersections to make it fully usable for a complete road system. The configurable intersections are incredible also! I've tried to make contact, and BEG for some more intersections/parts, but no luck yet.

Maddy if you are out there, PLEASE make more stuff, especially an intersection (both a 4 way and T) between your 4lane highway and your sidewalk roads!!!!!!!

Transperth Train Lines

I am going to be starting the Transperth train Lines as of today

Joondalup
Fremantle
Midland
Armadale
Thornlie Spur
Mandurah

I am still trying to find out how to get the announcement system on the lines, does any one know how to do this

I know there are station announcements for other systems on the DLS, so you could clone that item in CMP and change the audio file included for a recording of Perth's station announcements (which you'd probably have to record yourself), and edit the config file to point to the sound file you added. Then simply place the item in a relevant spot on the route.

Or else you could make your invisible item in any 3D modeling software and add the sound file into it as above.

As for my own Transperth route, having to learn the eccentricities of 2010 has set me back a little, especially that I've now decided to replace the standard gauge track I originally made it with to the more accurate 42' gauge (narrow gauge) that makes up the real Transperth system (and dual gauge for the Fremantle line across the Swan River bridge and the Midland line from East Perth terminal to Midland).

Naturally, it's very slow going, not helped by the only dual 42'/standard gauge track that I could find is not the West Australian style three-railed track with a common rail, but the Queensland-style 'gauntlet track' with four rails. Anyone know of some decent three-railed dual-gauge track available, either on the DLS or a third-party site?

Either way Adam, good luck with your Perth route! :)
