High Quality 3rd Rail Track?

I was just wondering if there was any high quality 3rd rail track out there. Would even be willing to purchase if need be. If there isnt any available, could someone point me in the direction of how to make assets so I could maybe give it a whirl? Thanks guys - happy holidays!

There's a couple of high-quality track splines with a third rail on the DLS, however, they're often not listed as 'third rail track' but under more generic terms, hence you may have to search using a more broader name, like 'subway track' (I presume you're building a subway/underground route right?).

As a start, try Ray-wiley's 'Metro single track' which is very good (it has the third rail beside the track, much like the New York subway) - it's KUID:275817:37995.

You could also try Magicland's subway track in various styles as well, which includes track with a third rail with different types of sleepers (both concrete and wooden if I remember right). :)

Those look okay - but Im really looking for that hi-detail look that the new 09' and later series has. Is there a simple way to make track, or edit current track? If i could find a way to take the stock track, and clone it, add a third rail, that would totally satisfy what I need.

Thanks for the recommendation, Enkido. The track was made for TRS2004 and I have not yet tested it in 2009 or 2010. Perhaps I might mention that the conductor rail is available separately for adding to any track of the user's choice, and placing the conductor rail's spline points over the track splines spaces it correctly for the Paris Metro for which it was made (KUID 275817:37991). Incidentally, I now realise why many more people have downloaded this track than have shown interest in my Paris Metro 'Classic' Sprague-Thomson rolling stock!

During the past (nearly) 80 years I have seen many spellings of my family name! - correct version shown below to help anyone searching the DLS.

I actually used Ray's 3rd rail in my current route I'm building. Used it on certain bridge sections. However I went with another set of track for the 3rd rail on the rest of the parts.

I think you're better off downloading some High Quality Track and using Jaleel's 3rd Rail Spline pack which is on the DLS.You'll have place it manually.

Ooops! I'm sorry Ray, I didn't realize I misspelled your name! :D (although you left the 'h' off the end of my handle so it's all good! :D).

The track seems to work well in 2010 though, (although I'm running in Compatibility Mode so that does help), and I thoroughly reccomend it to anyone building a metro/subway route. :)

Enkidoh - my turn to apologise for mis-spelling your name and it certainly wasn't a childish attempt at retaliation! - I'm not like that. My correction was simply to help anyone who might be looking on the DLS.

I'm pleased to hear that my (first) attempt at creating track works in 2010. As I've only recently upgraded to that version after a disastrous computer malfunction which gave me a good excuse to buy a new one with more modern spec., I've not yet transferred all my custom objects from the old hard drive - which is now an external. And as there are so many, plus a good number of downloads, I'm trying to do some judicious culling! The problem is that although my objects are identified by the username being used as the folder name, the downloads only appear with their KUID as folder name. I'm wondering whether I have to open each one to find out what the object is.

Theres compatibility mode? Are you referring to the windows mode, or within the game itself? I have a crash to desktop issue using portals thats been making me pull my hair out. Ive tried everything some other posts recommend to no avail. Just wondering if theres something else im missing here.

Ray,

Import the content into CM and it will show the proper names. The Hash-xx folders will contain thousands of Kuids, which are nearly impossible to figure out are what.

I mean Trainz 2010 'Compatibility Mode' - it's a setting within 2010 that makes the software ignore errors (mostly) in older content, which will often 'fix' content that otherwise won't work in 2010. Not every pre 09 item will run in this, but it does help with getting most older content to work in 2010.

By default 2010 is set for 'Native Mode' - to switch to 'Compatibility Mode' you have to access 'Options' in the main Menu in Surveyor, and select 'Video Settings', and click the tick next to 'Compatibility Mode' (you might have to shut down 2010 and restart it for old content to work though).

It's worth noting though that there is a slight reduction in smoothness in video if using Compatibility Mode, but it's a small price to pay for using older content in 2010.

Thanks, John - that is a really helpful suggestion. And of course if anything then shows up which I would not now use, I can always delete it or give it a low rating number.

I may give this a try to see if it resolves my crashing issue using portals. I'm at wits end.

....MN stuff

You could use the Metro North (MN) 3rd rail spline (I think theres a route in TRSC1 - TRS10 thats called harlem line and it uses the spline mostly on every track in the map)

Just Might Work:D ;)
