Hidden Layers (Surveyor: Trainz 2009)

I was trying to delete a piece of track and couldn't. I then tried to add add a train to the same section and was informed there was already a train on a hidden layer.
How do I get rid of the hidden train/layer?

Thanks in advance.

Thought I would dive in before the experts arrive;)
Have you tried merging the layers?
Yesterday I noticed that when you select the properties of the object it shows which layer it is on, old news to most but not me, and you can change it , eg, track from session to route (a failing of mine).

I can't find any layer options anywhere.

If you are using TS2009 SP4, things get very tricky.

This solution should help though.

Firstly, create a blank baseboard on it's own in Surveyor, then save it as a new map.

Secondly, open the map you are having difficulty with, then use the Merge Route option.

Select the blank baseboard map, then click the tick icon.

The next box has two tabs. Click the top tab to select where you want the blank baseboard to go.

Once this is done, click the second tab. You will see two items shown in red. Double-click the second item, then rename it to something else.

There will be an icon between the tick and cross icons which should be the merge layers icon. Click this (make sure the renamed layer is selected) then select route-layer, followed by the tick.

You should now get another box appear, click the tick to confirm this.

Once done, the tick icon on the two-tab box will become available, click this to finish the job.

Hopefully this will solve your issues, but if not there is a similar process that I can detail if needed.

NOTE: In some cases, this may cause Trainz to crash to the desktop, but this is due to a fault in the software, and should sort itself out the next time.

Thank you very much. Sorted :)

It's OK - found the solution myself by chance, whilst dealing with another layer-related issue (inability to place trackside objects)

EDIT: Ghost42, luckily I do not crack safes....

EDIT EDIT: If it's ok with Ghost42 and Ben710, I'd like to add that solution to my tutorial website, just in case this thread goes AWOL in cyberspace.

Shane,

What are, if any, the advantages of using SP4 in 2009?

I am thinking of a reinstall and may just go the SP3.

Your thoughts.

Regards,
Ron

Probably the only one I've found is the ability to use most TS2010 content in TS2009, which is useful to me as I've noticed some trainz like the Cross Country (UK) HST is for TS2009 SP4/TS2010 users.
Others may have different ideas on this.

I was effectively forced to install SP4 as my route would not work in any earlier versions of TS2009 (it was imported from TRS2006).

Be aware that if you have created any route/sessions whilst using TS2009 SP4, these will be unavailable at anything less than SP4.

Same goes for any TS2010 content, unless it is backdated. (TS2010 routes/sessions are an exception to this - they will only work in TS2009 SP4/TS2010)
