Help with wireless keyboard/mouse & Windows 7 (Cursor not showing - unable to use)

We need help please with trying to get a Windows 7 computer to work.

We set up the wireless keyboard/mouse & receiver, turn on computer for first use, but the cursor doesn't show to be able to set up. We had turn off the computer from the power point.

Can anyone help please?

Battery in the mouse? Check!
Have you pressed the button on the the receiver, the mouse and the keyboard to synch them up?

Have you got an old keyboard and mouse around, preferably pre USB. Your computer should have the necessary sockets. They will geve you control of your computer until you get the wireless stuff setup and working.

Probably need to install drivers maybe? Suggest using a normal USB or PS2 mouse so you can install any software for it and yes you can have two mice plugged in at once, comes in handy for odd problems like this.

Personally I stick to wired devices, less to go wrong and no messing with batteries, sudden thought it does have batteries in it?

Edit: hmm, more forum oddities, neither of the two previous replies were there when I read the thread.

Euphod - batteries: Batteries were installed, no button on receiver what I can see - tried that.
Narrowgauge, yes, but we want to make sure the keyboard & mouse work without having to resort to that at the moment.
Clam1952: Drivers weren't required - wireless stuff was included - yep wired stuff better, but as above, want to see if they work first.

Unusual. Every wireless setup I have used required pushing a button on the receiver, and then the keyboard, and then the mouse. The lights will cycle on the receiver, and stop each time the button is pushed on the keyboard and mouse, synching up the frequencies or something. Of course, it's been awhile, so perhaps it's different now. Sorry I couldn't help! Good luck Red.

You may find the answer by doing a Google search for "win 7 wireless mouse keyboard problems", too many answers out there to list them in detail !. With the Google results stick to the reliable websites, e.g Microsoft, TomsHardware etc sites.

Some wireless mice have switches and multiple frequencies. They need to match the receiver for the mouse to work.

I've had your problem Red, ended up binning the thing. Daughter got hold of it and it worked for her. Make sure your not near anything that will interfere with the signal (telly for eg).

We have just been informed by the salesman that the reason is that this certain computer company left off a step in the instructions. It seems the salesman knew about this, but neither of us were informed. In other words, we had NO knowledge of said issue/s, even though the salesman did. He said to ring a number, but it's his responsibility to let us know, if he knew.
