Help - Unale to start trainz

Hi,
I have TRZ'12 and has been running fine since I installed it months ago. Just today I get an error. TO be specific, the error happens after I launch TRZ and get the main splash screen that has: Start, Options, Content, etc on it. When I click "Start" I get this error:

X Your computer hardware and or software is unable to communicate correctly with Trainz.
Ensure you have:
- Installed DirectX9
- Installed the latest drivers for your video card
- Tried both OpenGL and DirectX settings (TrainzLauncher > Configure...)

I dont think I've installed or deleted any programs since this last ran successfully last night.
I will say it seemed to happen after I tried to download and install some freeware from the forum. I downloaded the CDP file, it opened, but my system was never able to log onto Auran within the CMP tool. It just held and eventually I had to kill the program.

I'm wondering if that messed up something in my build?

I had that happen once, turned out a glitch had somehow made weird settings in my display options.

Click the options button instead of start, check the display settings and particularly the advanced tab to make sure it hasn't done something weird like setting the frequency or resolution to something your system can't do. Other thing to try if you haven't already, Start, Turn off computer, Restart.

That happened to me once. When I opened Options - Display Settings tab, it had unticked the full screen check box. Ticking that brought it back - apparently Trainz does not like windowed mode.

thank you!! yep, i did re-start my PC a few times. In the end I did what you said. went into options, changed display setting from Open GL to Dirext X and it worked! changed it back to OPen DL and it worked too. So looks like just ticking/unticking something will reset it. good to know. thanks!
