HELP Question: How may I backup and restore my saved driver sessions?

I have Railroad Simulator powered by Trainz 2012.
The build of my software is 47772

The book that came with my software did not explain how to do this.

My PC is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit.

I want to be able to backup and restore saved Driver Sessions if that is possible.

I just reinstallled my operating system and Trainz. I have been using a file sync program to copy
the UserData folder in the NV3 folder on my C drive [in Program Files (x86)] to my backup drive. When I resynced
the backup UserData to the active UserData folder on the C drive, Trainz did not recognize any saved sessions.

Should I backup the entire NV3 folder in Program Files (x86) and copy the entire contents of this folder back
to the new NV3 folder upon re-installation of Trainz and/or Windows?

I would probably have to delete all initial subfolders and files installed in the NV3 folder by default before dumping
all my backed-up content in there.

You could find your sessions in the following folder: <YourTrainzFolder>\UserData\cache\sessions . There are subfolder for each saved session. Replace <YourTrainzFolder> with the drive and name of the folder where your Trainz installation is.

I just ran the Auran Patcher and now my build number has been changed to 49922. The Patcher did not complete as it got hung up in the middle of the operation. This software has been a bit buggy since I bought it new this June.

That would indicate a failed patch if it did not complete. In terms of what to backup, I would suggest backing up the entire UserData folder.

Also, please register your Trainz version - click Planet Auran, then Serial Number, then fill in the form.

Shane

P.S. For future reference, some patches will appear to stop in the middle. Do not cancel it unless the patch has actually aborted (usually indicated by red text after the word Patching.

The other day, I reinstalled Trainz following reinstallation of Windows. All along, I had been syncing the UserData folder to a similar backup folder on another drive. I use software called FreeFileSync for backups. Anyway, I tried using the file sync app to RESTORE backup UserData to the normal UserData folder installed by Trainz by default by using reverse syncing. Then when I launched Trainz, none of my previous saved sessions were recognized by the new installation of Trainz. Perhaps, in the future, I should delete all data stored in the UserData file by default when Trainz is reinstalled and then COPY all the contents of my backup UserData folder into the active UserData folder on the C drive. Unless you good folks here have a better method of backup/recovery of your sessions following a Trainz program reinstallation.

On the subject of PC sims, I also have Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition. Backup and recovery of saved game material is simple. FSX creates a folder in Documents by default where all display setting data files, flight plans and flight files are saved. I use File Sync to backup My Documents. Whenever FSX is reinstalled, I simply copy all the files from my FSX backup folder into the default FSX folder on the C drive and the reinstalled sim recognizes and is able to use everything saved before the reinstallation.

If you are using that method, you will need to do an extended database repair in Content Manager (Launcher > Content > File > Extended Database Repair).

OK - what you need to do is to click Content on the first screen that appears after double-clicking the shortcut. Once Content Manager appears, click File, then Extended Database Repair, then wait for it to finish.

Oh, Content in the Trainz menu itself...I believe I have got it.

Is this Extended Database Repair supposed to magically restore my old saved sessions?

Would my Trainz serial number have had to been registered from the get-go for this to work?

I tried running that and it said Zero errors. Upon launching Trainz following this, however,
none of my old sessions were listed.

OK - check if the assets are indeed present in Content Manager, and that there are no red !, red ?, or yellow ? icons next to them.
