Help on new route please! Liskeard to totnes and maby up to exeter st davids

Great start .............. be patient, remember that you are working with a computer (and hopefully for other folks computers) where resources are not infinite!

Most of all ............ have fun and so take a break as/when necessary. Trainz is amazing software to work with but we all must have "other lives" so keep things into perspective ..... you need an education ..... you need friends .... and you probably by now need Trainz! I estimate around 200-250 hours of my time went into creating Valleyfields LNER layout which I imagine is not unusual.

Looking forward to seeing your route on DLS so I can download it (and probably re-do trackside to reflect BR steam/early diesel era!!!!!!).

Nice chatting ........ but at this time of night (for you) .... shouldn't you be somewhere else .......... like in bed?

Regards. Colin.

thanks, i am allowed to stay awake for a bit, im home educated.:hehe:

Yeh........ I can go with that! You will no doubt gets lots of general suggestions on how to create your layout but if you have a specific issue, then you should ask the question accordingly.

Example: How do you do landscaping is pretty broad. How do I set a height for a plateau so that I can have houses slightly elevated relative to the track ....... is more precise.

Also, check out other layouts as you will probably see a number of things that raise the question.......... how do they do that?

All the best.

Colin.

Is anyone interested? or am i wasting my time?
Hi voyager101:

I am going to take a guess that Trainzers who are in the creating business usually have enough of their own stuff to do. If I understand you correctly (and my apologies if not), you have come up with an idea for a layout which you want others to actually create and/or refine?

While you are clearly in the very early stages, your work looks promising so why not continue on your own? Perhaps create a new layout for "learning purposes" and practise laying track etc. etc. Look at photos of Saltash Bridge and then go into your "learning layout" and practise the necesary scenic touches. As/when you feel you have a grasp of a particular function, go into your "real" layout and add to it accordingly.

Imagine the satisfaction of creating your own layout.

Hope this helps. Colin.

i have the devon cornwall ones, but they have lots of sharp corners and there are lots of things in them that are no real, like an engine shed at saltash. (there has never been one there)
and other stuff

devon lines 2004 covers the entire route from Newton Abbot to Just north of Exeter and includes teignmouth docks. Its as close to real as i can make it.

..........and a very good route it is too, stagecoach!

I'm sure, if voyager101 asked you nicely, you would let him butt his route on to Newton Abbot and run Westwards into Kernow from there? You didn't mind my merging The Withered Arm on to your route, did you?

All the Best

Ian
