hi all

whenever i try to sort the cdp's or the content folders that i have saved over the time
win7 always goes to updating the folder order.

i get that green stripe moving across the top from left to right and it locks me out.

is there a way to stop that?

its costing me so much in time by always having to wait until it finishes and then i usually have to find where i was up to

thanks
ron

I was having that problem with Vista. I upgraded to Windows 7, and it went away. I searched the internet to see if I could come up with a solution, and I found that most people were saying that it was a problem with Vista. I hope I don't get it back now that I am on Windows 7.

Ron,

You are one many complaining about this, not so much in here, but out in the wide, wide world of cyber-space.

What I can suggest is to load this:-

win7 windows explorer green bar at top

into Google and read what others have discovered and tried.

Might help you find a solution / work-around,
Laurie

Hi Dave,

I didn't see your post before. Turn off Indexing or worse Windows Search if you installed MS Office. The Searching thing will kill your folder sorting.

Indexing is turned off by righ-clicking your hard drive in Computer. Choose properties and at the bottom is something about indexing. Uncheck and confirm to remove from all folders. Depending upon how much you instaled, the process can take some time.

Windows Search is a pain in the you know what to remove. The best thing is to disable the service in Services. Open up the Adminsitrator settings in the Control Panel, or right-click on Computer and choose manage. Choose services (gear icon). Look for Windows Search. Right click on that and choose stop. For start-up options, choose disable.

You might receive an error in Outlook of you use that about searches being slower, but who cares because the search will kill your machine and make it about as fast as a '486.

thanks guys

that fixed the problem very nicely

haven't been able to try it when using trains,
but with everything else its speeded things up nicely

Windows Search & Indexing will have a bad effect on even running Trainz. Not so much the actual game, but when CMP starts up, the OS tries to index all the folders CMP is trying to open. This causes a huge delay in CMP startup.

In WIn7 it isn't that bad, but Vista was horrible.

Isn't it a joy to jump through hoops to get the computer running decently and to run programs at a decent clip? It is amazing the things Microsoft has done to windows 7 and vista to make them faster but ends up slowing the process down... I.E. trying to delete a somewhat large file in windows 7 is god awful...it has to do all sorts of things prior to deleting the file..Windows XP you press delete...poof it is gone to the recycle bin(or if it is very large deleted permanently)
