HELP DESK - HELP !!!

71 days ago I submitted a CMP problem to the Help Desk. The message was acknowledged and the status remains as "Open". I have submitted two reminders but no response has been forthcoming.

Any advice on the situation would be appreciated as I have been unable to download any items from the Download Station for over two months.

As CMP is an integral part of Trainz, I am seriously considering abandoning Trainz and removing the application from my computer.

In addition, I have subscribed to a First Class Ticket which, obviously, I have been unable to use.

Some clues to the nature of your problem, may help others to to understand what the problem might be.
For example, what error messages are you getting & what remedies have you tried ?

I don't use CMP myself, as I have TRS2004 with TrainzObectz, but others who can help will need a bit of information before they come up with possible cures. :)

The DLS has been working in that time - I've been able to download using CM3.2.

While it is possible that there has been the odd outage, the DLS has been available.

This suggests that there's something in your computer system that causing problems.

Can you post your PC specifications and OS? Also your build number of 2010 would help...

Suggestions - generally

Make sure that the Content Manager program is allowed access to the Internet by yur virus checked/firewall.
Similarly, some modem routes block access - you may need to check that.

What changed 2 months ago? did you update any software/drivers?
(the CM needs to use Open GL - IIRC).

Are the programs runing with "administrator" access (e.g. if you changed the User Access control)?

Try using the Download web page (tab at the top of the page) - if you click on any item does it download for the website?
If not, can you download by FTP?

Just to check the function, can you download from another Trainz site (e.g. UK bracnc lines or Trainz Pro Routes) - these host some .cdp files so it's possible to chek the operation of the CM without access to the DLS.

Thank you for your response. I submitted details of the problem (see next paragraph) to the Forum on 11 June as I had not received a reply to my enquiry made to the Help Desk on 20 April. I received advice from "robin hoods" but having carefully checked the points raised by him, the problem was not resolved.

{After clicking on to the Download Cart the following is received - "Web page cannot be displayed" and in the address box ""Trainz:/Install-Cart".
On launching CMP "Cannot find your profile or you do not have a valid Serial Number". I have checked my profile and serial number and both appear to be in order}.

Thank you. Your response is rather technical for me but I will take time to work through it before replying. It did occur to me that the questions you have asked are precisely those which the Help Desk should have been asking me over two months ago.

As a first step, I will follow your suggestion to attempt to download from another Trainz site

I am having exactly the same problem, and it remains unresolved, although I have never submitted a ticket to helpdesk.
I am able to download using Content Manager though.

What I recommend is not to use the DL cart. When you want to DL anything, use the FTP option to save the file to your hard drive, then import the .cdp into CM.

I have been using both Firefox and IE, and get the same problem.
I have associated the .cdp files with Content Manager, yet it refuses to open when I try to use the cart.
I believe this happened when I installed SP2 or SP1 for TS2010, or maybe it happened when I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate.

I should probably try it on Windows XP, which I have as a dual-boot on my system.

When you have the launcher page, and go into Options, try re-entering your user id and password.
Also, check your Auran profile. Can you log into it? If so, then you should also be able to access DLS.
Do you have your CD keys entered for the products you own? If not, then you will not be able to access DLS.

Various versions

I use various versions of Trainz, including 2004, TC3, 2006 and 2010. I have not had any major errors with downloading.
However, it is often the case that you will need to go to your CP Page and reinsert your username and password as it seems to get 'stuck' at times.

The other option that works very well is to go get TrainzDownloaderPro, a download utility that not only gets your asset but also all dependencies at the same time, now that's got to be a good service!
This avoids using CMwhatever until the last moment and not attempting to access the DS with it because TDP will download assets to whatever folder you designate. I use one called Today's Downloads on C:/, but Auran daily downloads etc is just as good. No need to open your Trainz game version at this point at all.
Once you have whatever assets you want then open Trainz and CMP and choose File/Import Assets, then navigate to your daily folder and Import the files into CMP.

The reference to ftp above; it works the same way, except ftp wont go get dependencies, only the file you choose the download. The rest is however, the same.

Hope that helps.

If you're trying to use the old Download Cart up on the web, you'll find that it doesn't always work, or at least that's what I've found. Overall I've had few problems downloading using CMP, or even when using TRS2004 the old Download Manager.

You mentioned that you can't login to the DLS, and CM. Your login information is the same as the one used to login to the forums.

If you continue to receive this error in CM, perform an Extended Database repair. Your login information is kept within the Assets.tdx file.

TrainsDownloaderPro?

Having had numerous problems with CMP, I have abandoned TRS2006, and returned to TRS2004.

Having seen TrainzDownloaderPro mentioned on a number of occasions in these forums, I would like to try it for myself.
Can someone please supply a link?

Thanks,
Ian

I had a similar situation, I'm using Windows7 also. The download helper wouldn't work and I got the messsage "webpage canot be displayed" and although I could place items in the download cart on the Auran site I got the same message when I tried to download. I could still download Ok by going directly to the CMP via the "content" button in the launcher.
I switched to running Trainz as administrator and now it all works.
For the semi-computer iliterate like myself, here's how it's done. First open TRS2010 folder. Highlight Trainz application, go to "organize" tab, open "properties" then "compatability" then tick the box,"run program as administrator."

Hey; Thanks for that info. I've not tried running TS as admin. I'll give it a try.

EDIT: Ticked "run as administrator" for the copy of TS2010 I normally run (I have several installs), and sure enough; now I can DL the entire cart from DLS!
I had thought that because I am logged onto my computer as a user that has admin rights, I didn't need to tick that box, but I guess in Windows 7 it is required.
I do seem to recall being told about this feature when I attended the Windows 7 launch event last Oct.

Thanks again!

I checked for it and found on one website. I did the DL, but did not install. It's a very old app that runs on .NET 1.1.
I currently run Windows 7 with .NET 4, and am afraid to install the old .NET, let alone such an antiquated app.

Thank you for your replies and advice.

There has, however, been a a strange occurrence. The Password I had been using for several years for Forum, Download Station and CMP suddenly became "Invalid" . I was reluctant to approach the Help Desk and chanced using the "Forgotten Password" procedure. A new Password was provided which I changed to my old Password and the problem of Downloading has disappeared.

The mysteriouz wayz of Trainz !!!:)

I am pleased to say that reasons for the Help Desk delay have been provided and my First Class Ticket has been extended for a further 12 weeks to cover the period when access to the Download Station was unavailable.
