Having a slight problem with installing Nvidia Drivers

Hello Everybody,
Today I went about my daily chores as a computer owner,to update all my drivers for everything I could etc. When I downloaded the new driver for my Nvidia 7600GS 256MB card,I installed it like any other time,it asked me to restart the computer as usual so I did. After it restarted,I was expecting to have to reset my screen resolution,as well as make it dual screens again as I did with any other previous drivers, but this time was different..When I went to look for the program ntune(provided by nvidia) to change screen set up for dual screens,I was shocked to find that ntune was no where to be found:eek: So I messed around trying to figure out what was wrong, then finally called it quits and reinstalled the drivers from the CD that came with the card. Now I am working on an older driver(not what I wanted after all that:hehe::confused:) but at least my computer is back to being able to run trainz and any other game for now...
I tried 1 of 2 methods to install the drivers, 1. Was to install the downloaded drivers right over the previous version. or 2.Where you remove the older version via, add/remove programs, then install the new version. I have tried the first way but am reluctant to do the 2nd becuase I have already been at this for 2 hours of futzing around trying to get it back to some sort of operating condition.
Thanks for any help you can give in advance,
Gandalf:wave:

I can only add an observation.

Just yesterday I installed the latest drivers for my 8800. I never remove old drivers, and Ntune was right where I left it after the restart. I can't help more than that because those are different drivers.

Hi Euphod, just a question re the new driver. Has it fixed the bug whereby buildings and trees flash in nightmode? This has been a particularly frustratiing bug with my 8800.

will system restore not put you back to a point before you installed the latest drivers? Or can you download ntune from nvidea separately. If so put the newest drivers on then get ntune.

Did both and they didn't work...So I installed the drivers from the CD...

I've got series 9 card and when you open the nvidea control panel through the task bar 3 options appear 3d,display,video. in display the multiple display is at the bottom.
the latest drivers from nvidea are 182.5 which apply to series 7,8,9 etc cards. just wondering in the download you did if they updated your control panel and you missed it because you didn't recognise it?
Best I can think of at the moment.

Sorry to step on the thread Gandalf.

Bolivar: I have not started Trainz since the new drivers, as I'm still recuperating from a hospital stay, but I thought that flashing was endemic to Trainz, not dependant on the drivers?

Not a problem...I just hope someone can help with this weird problem...I also tried to manually update the drivers, but to no avail,it did the same thing ass the other way...Ntune disappears, the control panel for Nvidia also disappears...It is really weird...but as soon as I uninstall them, then reinstall the old drivers, everything is back:eek:

just had a look on the nvidea website. there's a fault finding/troubleshooting section. Seen one for dual screen mode solution when the control panel is not there. page 3 I think. looking at it you should sort your problems out on that site.

Did both still no luck..So I am gonna stay where I am until something new comes up,because I don't feel like having to fix my computer for the 5th time and rearrange my desktop for the 7th time....

nvidia drivers 182.50

Hi Gandalf, I also have had problems with the latest nvidia drivers 182.50,..I use a 7 series nvidia geforce graphics card, and after upgrading from 178.24 my screen resolution 1152x864 disappeared from settings in display, and I was unable to enter either TRs TC3, or TRS 2009, Entry was blocked by a window stating " your computer is unable to communicate with trainz due to a render.dll malfunction, all other programmes appeared to be working ok,...I deleted 182.50 and re-installed 178.24 everything returned to normal,..has anybody been able to install these drivers correctly ?.

The nvidia drivers seem to have changed . The 180 versions and above cannot run Trainz as the frame rate is almost zero. My nvidia card is AGP 6600 with 128 megs and works on version 169.
Nvidia site search for driver gives a 183." something" driver which does not work. Revert to a lower driver like I did.
The drivers changed names slightly shortly after 169 version on the list of drivers which may be the problem.

Hi Gandalf0444, oldie
I have installed the 182.50 drivers without any problems.

Ntune. If you right click on your desktop, in the pop-up list you will see 'Nvidia control panel', this contains Ntune.

DaveW :)

Thanks for the info but the control panel is not there, and the computer doesn't even recognize I have a graphics card like it did before I tried to install them. I can still get into ntune, however half of all the pages are missing(I have tried the thing they have on the support forum at Nvidia to no success,as well as looking under custom view to no avail...),and control panel is just gone.

not meaning to sound downbeat but sounds like your cards gone. you say the comp doesn't recognise your card. try this, control panel-system properties-device manager-hardware-display adapters. This should show your graphics card, if it's not showing I'd say its shot at. it could be the power cables from the PSU, try changing them and also use another power outlet from the PSU if you have one.
While your in the control panel that show any nvidea components you have installed.

It's obviously still alive and well since I installed the older drivers, and then everything is back to normal:p...And since I can play graphically intense games also leads me to believe it is still alive also:p Not to mention it is not even a year old..

Thanks, I'll see what it is as soon as the page decides to load:hehe:
