Have you seen the anouncment from Tony?

There's also a number of people posting in there saying that they believe it did live up to the hype. Of course I suspect you have 'selective reading' when it comes to anything that doesn't agree with you.

Quiebus and willblunden, lately you just seem to be seizing on any thread which may give you the opportunity to make the same points again and again. I think people know your thoughts by now, you probably don't need to risk gagging anyone by forcing it too far down their throats do you?

Mike.

Yes I do and will continue to do so because here on the forum I am allowed to express my opinion. Just like you do and you also grab every opportunity to tell everybody how wonderful TC3 is ... of course we must not forget that you are co-producer of that hideously badly build route and sessions and you need to defend your product till death makes you part from it. Take a hike Mike. I am not the least interested in your opinion.

saying that the TC3 route is hideously bad... well... that made your credibility disappear pretty fast!

And how do you determine my credibility? Can you look into my head and see that I wasn't expressing an opinion? Have you had a look at the monster yourself or are you just having your hands in your pants while playing? With a decent computer with all the specs the same or higher asthe recommended specs on the box I can hardly get FPS above 10 -15 ... have you tried the aotomated sessions? How many function correctly? Have you take a look a detailed look at the track and how it is placed at certain locations? I find the route below par and worse then MANY freeware routes. So yeah ... I find the route hideously bad because of the aforementioned reasons ... as I am entitled to.

Where did Euphod hide the popcorn?

Have fun,

I think it mentions it will be available for download in a few months (but I don't intend re-reading it as dial-up takes time), but I assume also available on disc from regional suppliers possibly a bit later.................. Not quite sure what the basic version includes, although yes I have read it. Surveyor yes, but again presumable also some form of driver mode. Otherwise nothing that's made can move without buying the more complex version 2 with driver, etc................... What is the position with different file types, and still the standard export to .im files, and as I no longer use gmax it would be dependant on how the beta blender exporter works out?............................. Must end as I need another quill and parchment sheet........ Barry................ P.S.........I also seem to remember reading, before this announcment, the first version would include some integrated dem data function such as srtm2, etc, and I think the wording was ....the bells and whistles woul be in 2010 version......... or similar.

Maybe if more people complained about the standard of performance of Auran's prods on these forums, Auran might raise their standards a little. Instead we have the usual crowd rushing to buy whatever they put out. Perhaps Auran staff could have a good hard look at TC and TRS2006 forums and see just how well those 2 are performing. I paid $90 for TRS2006, had to reinstall 4 or 5 times to keep it running OK, as well as a lot of time correcting errors, and trying to get it to even open. Then spent a lot of time converting my 2006 routes back to 2004, when I reinstalled TRS2004. How many others have gone through all this too? Tony Hilliam says previous editions were a little underpolished and undertested and played 2nd fiddle to other productions. Not good enough Auran. The only train sims I have installed now are TRS2004 and EA Rail Simulator, because they run every time I want to use them without any problems. If TRS2009 will do that OK.

EA Rail Simulator,
Oh, I see now. If you are used to such high quality, fully tested, bug-free, completely working software with all its announced features fully implemented such as that, I can see how Trainz would fall short of your high standards.
Mike.

I thought you were being sarcastic about TC3 here, could have fooled me.

Will and others

I think you need to seriously consider what the competitors have offered and compare that to the effort that has been put into Trainz. Look at MSTS and the errors that it had (and still does), look at RailSimulator and all of the issues that people are saying about that (and the number who have come back to Trainz).

It seems that people on here seem to think that anyone who does not whinge about Auran is considered a "sunshine blower" or other derogatory term. If you want to throw that term in my direction, fine, but let me explain what I think is a better way to work.

I, like the rest of you, have had issues with various releases (and how do I just love the 04 holdouts saying how wonderful 2004 is, after 4 service packs...), and I don't agree with everything Auran does, but I try to find ways of helping, rather than whingeing, to get the things fixed that I see as important. An example is steam sound. In TC1&2 I had the chance to put my two bob's worth in to see if we could get some changes. Well that didn't work, but I didn't run off screaming about how bad Auran were (well I couldn't, it was my fault it broke!), but worked with them again to get it working properly in TC3. Now, finally, after numerous releases, we have a steam sound that people had been asking for ever since steam was first introduced into Trainz. That's how it works. If you don't like something, don't whinge about it, do something like getting on TrainzDev or submitting useful, constructive suggestions.

I see the quote about the squeeky wheel, well I can tell you this, if you want to be the squeeky wheel, fine, but I can tell you that if you really want to get where you are going, help share the driving rather than being a back seat whinger...

Cheers
Tony

Now why do you have to go and slam the 04 holdouts ? Just because to them (even with its 4 service packs) it was the best version so far ? I'm not slamming you for doing this. Like you and many others, it gets really old and tiresome hearing this. Just like it gets old and tiresome hearing people slam the 06 people and so forth. Everyone has their own particular reasons for using a certain version so can't we just leave it at that ?

But, seeing as how this is a discussion forum, let's discuss.

As for service packs, let's look into the reality of that.

US version of 04......version 668 to 2365 weighed in at 144 megs. This was the grand total of all 4 service packs. I seem to recall 06 having 1 service pack that weighed in at 638 megs.

To do a little math....

144 divided by 4 = 36 megs per sp
638 divided by 1 = hmm, well, 638
So the bottom line is that 04 could have 10+ service packs coming in at 36 megs a piece and still have been smaller than the 06 sp.

Why the big difference ? Because at that time, I just don't think that Auran cared like they did with 04. Well, they've restructured and got people back that care about the product again. Sure 09 will have its bugs to work out but I bet it's going to be much better than 06 and TC. Quite possibly better than 04. That's what Auran is after and if they care enough, they will get it.

Whilst I don't like the idea of pushing content creators to either learn a new program (ie - blender, 3d canvas) or to fork out $3500 for 3dsmax, there is nothing you or I can do about it.

For the record, TPR would not support 06 because of the flaws it had and still does. We are currently upgrading to TC3 and are trying to get things in order to support it. I won't go into details but we are doing some things right now that the community just might be interested in. Not to mention some things that will be done for 09.

One Version to rule them all,

One Version to find them,
One Version to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.
(In the land of Auran where the shadows lie..)

Unlike the epic story misquoted above, the men of Gondor and the Elves themselves have no say. Auran will release another Trainz, and those that wish to will migrate to it. It may take years, it may never find, bring, or bind us all....but it will happen.

The rest of this is just empty posturing that may be regretted later....or not.

let's enjoy it!

How about we all look at the good side of trs2009 and stop Complaining?

~Sure 09 will have its bugs to work out but I bet it's going to be much better than 06 and TC. Quite possibly better than 04.~

That's why they are making a trainz railroad simulator 2009!
Have You guys ever looked at the trainz suggestions threads?

People are allways posting suggestions on how the next trainz could be improved. such as having a wider viriety of tools better scripting and better Content manager better default content And more...

So let's all enjoy Trainz 2009 and the other versions.

And I think we all need to thank the Trainz team for making Trainz what it is today if it was not for them trainz would not be here today.
Thank you Trainz team and auran!;)
And I think auran Do care if they did'nt why would they ever make another trainz.

We all freinds here lets enjoy it!
and if you don't like trs2009 Play trs 2004 or 2006 or whatever trainz you want Trainz is a great simulator!:D

One musing on the finer terrain, I wonder if the "bug" (sorry, limitation) on directionality of tunnels will finally be addressed so they can be laid at any angle (and straight, too)?

Off to pose the question on Trainz Dev...
