I did not think policital statements were allowed on the Fourms :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

Happy Independence Day...

 ...it is not a political statement, because their is no opposing argument...

It is however, a Holiday!

Did you know that some countries celebrate 4th of July before America?:o
I'm in Thailand right now and it's 12:02 and last night fireworks were going off like machine guns, very easy to get to sleep:sleep:

Better question why do other countries celebrate a U.S. Holiday to begin with?:hehe: Unless of course there is some other holiday associated with the country your currently in.

Happy forth everyone. Even if you do live in another country. Who cares. It is always a good excuse to light off some explosives.

Americans celebrate holidays from everywhere. Just an excuse to party I would guess. :) The following are "celebrated" here in California:

Cinco de Mayo - Mexico

Oktoberfest - Deutchland

St. Patty's Day - Irisch

Independence Day - USA

Sadie Hawkins Day - England (my favorite)

I am sure there are many more.

Cheers :)

Sadie Hawkins Day - England

What on earth is that one?
We don't have that - I'm sure....

We also celebrate 4th July - Independence Day- everything that the US does isn't our problem any more ;) .

Go on Party (but not a tea party!)

What No Canada Day

Sorry if you took it the wrong way, I was just cheerful of the fireworks exploding next to my house.

heh I was fearful of them (and mind you I'm a pyro) 'cause:
a) I wasn't setting them off.
b) they ended up going off a few feet above my house (like literally directly above it) I wouldn't be surprised if there were remains of them on my roof!

Sadie Hawkins Day actually originated in America, from the Lil' Abner comic strip;

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1822/whats-the-origin-of-the-sadie-hawkins-dance

Back in the days before women's liberation (not THAT long ago, 1970, altho for some of you younkers 1970 probably seems like ancient history) a girl was not supposed to be "forward" or aggressive, so she was supposed to wait for a boy to ask her to dance or go out on a date. But on Sadie Hawkins day the roles were reversed and the girls were supposed to pick the boy they wanted.

My gosh, back when you rode dinosaurs to work and watched black & white TV?:o :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

Heck NO

You've been watching too many re-runs of the Flintstones.

Colour TV came into popularity with the '64 Olympics, and over here we used cars to get to and from work (or if you were lucky trains!)

I'm not sure where this ides of "not being forward " came from either - maybe it's different on the far side of the Atlantic?

It will be a problem for you.... when the oil from the Gulf of Mexico enters the loop current and takes it to the ...Gulf Stream... which will end up on the UK shores.

Perhaps the BBC has not told you that news at this time.

Oh, almost forgot, the oil well gushing crude and gas was NOT a USA venture.

Have fun,:)
