I think AJ Fox meant Guy Fawkes Day, celebrated in England...
Golly, let's leave-off the hateful oil-spill topic for the time?
Other countries are not expected to observe US-Americas Independence Day, however their were times when we stepped in to preserve other nations existence...party with US!
When I was in High School (1956-1959) I looked forward eagerly to Sadie Hawkins dances. I was in Germany at the time (my dad was Air Force) and we got all dressed up in costumes depicting characters from Li'l Abner. My favorite was Fearless Fosdick.
Happy Fourth to everyone also - my birthday (68) is today - the 5th.

4th of July, The Day America decided to become it's own country and celebrate by Lighting off Fireworks, having cookouts, drinking till your outta whatever your drinking, having a stock car race that weekend, and eating till your stuffed. I love the Fourth of July
I remember when I was younger we would go up on a trip to see the rest of the family in Illinois and we would always celebrate my Birthday late. Not becouse we got there late, but becouse my birthday, June 30th, was only 4 days away from Independence day! So I would have my party then. Fireworks, AND presents!
PS: Speaking of birthdays, hurray for now being 16.
