Digital Equipment Corporation DEC for short, the Altair, even the Apple were forerunners to the IBM "PC" I think more credit needs to be given to Intel for processor development than IBM ever deserved in the history of personal computing. The hard drive they get credit for, but I think hitachi and DEC was making most of the memory if I recall.
Because let's remember what IBM actually did when it comes to the personal computer, they allowed Bill Gates to actually LICENSE them an operating system that was neither Bill Gates's at the time or even finished at the time.
Gates and Allen went to IBM to sell them an operating system, they didn't want it, they wanted no part of it, they were content to build the hardware. So Gates talked them into licensing it and now he can buy IBM and three more like it personally:hehe:
Actually I think IBM should go down in history as making one of the worst blunders in business ever with that deal.
