guess the loco game

Hi GossenGarrat:wave:
the loco is a Swiss high pressure loco. It has an 850PSI boiler powering a 3 cylinder uniflow steam engine with cam-driven poppet valves. The crankshaft drove the jackshaft via 1 to 2.5 flexible reduction gearing. The 3 cylinder engine is under the sloping bonnet at the front of the loco. It was built by The Swiss Locomotive Company at their Winterthur works in 1927. Only one was built. It was tested in Switzerland, Austria and France but because dangerous build up of scale in the boiler tubes could not be resolved it 'disappeared'.

Mike :)

Hi Gossengarratt,
It was originally on the west side of Australia & is now on the east side. Hope that helps.

guess the loco game

A few more clues:
It is biggish for its gauge.
The line it runs on now was originally broad gauge ( 5'3" ).
Hope this helps,
Mike :D

guess the loco game

Hi GossenGarratt,
I agree with you, must admit I didn't think it was so hard to identify.
It is a V class 2-8-2 formerly of West Australia Government Railways, running on 3'6" gauge. It is now on the Bellarine Peninsula Railway in Victoria. The group uses part of a former Victorian Railways branch line which was originally 5'3" & now relaid to 3'6". Maybe CattyPatty's diesel can be the next subject?:)
best wishes Mike:wave:
