Google Earth & Ruler Feature

I would like to use the ruler feature in Google Earth to take multiple measurements at the same time. To my knowledge this can not be done. The path feature is available but the line has to stay connected and it will only give you total distance.

I would like to make several individual measurements at once. Much like the ruler feature in Trainz. You could then save the image for reference.

Does anyone know of any other free mapping applications where this can be done?

Not that i'm awear of, i've tryed most of the others and found google was the best, i printed out all the areas that i needed ( around 20 sheets ) and from then on i just used the ruler and transfered the mesurments onto the print outs.
