Gmax

Hi all I am quite new to gmax - I posted a thread about it last year and i havent got very far since. I have learnt the basics of shape creating and creating animations, but the actual reason i've post ed this thread is to ask a question (or two):

Does the size of the actual train matter when importing into trainz?

Will the size of the train be massive in trainz or will it be tiny?

thanks for any help I get.

conctetebob,

I am not a user of gmax but would imagine that you would need to set up the scale in gmax and then create your objects to match their real life counterparts so if something in the real world is 60ft long then you create it 60 scale feet long in gmax ?

That is correct. In gmax, go to the top menu bar, go to Customize>Units Setup. You can work in metric or Imperial.

I seem to remember that animations only work correctly if the SYSTEM units are in metres. Otherwise you are correct, but I'd advise using metric to avoid confusion if you're comfortable with it.

Yes, the System Unit Scale (in the Customize -> Preferences... dialog) should be set to Meters. However, the working units (what you will actually notice as the units of measurement when modeling) (which are accessed as Jay described) can be any thing you want, I believe. Which working units you use does not appear to have any effect on the model in Trainz; I think that it is the System Unit Scale that probably matters. ;)

Regards.

Yes, I forgot to mention the system units. Make sure that is set to metric, then use whatever working units you are comfortable with. And yes, if the object you are modelling is, say, 2m long, make it 2m long in gmax.
