gmax vs Blender

Hello,

I use both gmax and Blender to create models for Trainz. It is ture that gmax is no supported but then, as a graphics program, it really doesn't need support when it comes to Trainz. gmax is stable and gives you the ability to specify metric or imperial scale. In gmax, you can apply different texture maps to a model but you cannot do that in Blender. In Blender all your textures have to be on one map.

It is worth remembering that neither gmax nor Blender will create an awesome model. gmax and Blender do not create texture maps.

The beauty of models comes from the creator, who is willing to put in the time and effort to put out a masterpiece which everyone will admire.

You can spend several thousand dollars on a graphics program and make things that don't amount to much.

So, don't sell gmax and Trainz Asset Creation Studio short. Immagination and perseverence is what really counts.

Cheers,

srude

Wrong, you can do that but it is better to use one texture for Trainz. I used gmax for 7 years Blender for the last 2 and I would never go back to gmax as it has a lot of bugs in it. Also the exporter in TACS has a known bug that will not be fixed.
