i went onto unit setup and it says im already in metres and when leefer opens my gmax file up it says its in inches??? could someone tell me how to sort this out so i can get on with the animation for my asset

thanks

All that you have to do is select (in the menu bar at the top) Customize / Preferences

this will open a preferences menu and then make sure that 1 unit = 1.0 meters

Animation works just as well with feet and inches. I always work with that setting. It is vital that system units are metres which is the default setting but you don't see these.

Peter,
that's what I've been trying to point out to him. The user units can be in feet and inches, but the system units need to be in meters when an animation is involved. I would recommend leaving system units set to meters all of the time. The file that he's been sending me has the system units set to inches and not meters.

Sorry to be so late with this reply...

 Simply said, setup gmax for metric measurements & if you enter any deminsions just add the unit of measurment into the dialogue boxes with the number.

When the Automatic Unit Conversion option is turned on, gmax automatically converts your entries into the current setup.
  • double quotes (") for US inches
  • single quotes (')for US feet
  • mm for millimeters
  • cm for centimeters
  • m for meters
  • km for killometers
All these would automatically convert to the Units Setup.

If you need a converter, here is the BellSoft Calc-it Converter.

Amazon has the gmax Bible but some searches turn up Internet downloads claiming that for free...
