gmax help files?

Mezzoprezzo

Where does that initiation screen, the white one behind the funny face, come from?
I can't find anything entitled gmaz user reference anywhere...

How odd about those help files.... They seem to work in a cockeyed way.

As you will have seen from other posts, I have made some progress, but not much. At least it saved out without the message 'Nothing to save' showing.
But for all that my box isn't showing anywhere else, like in Trainz.

Thanks again,

Angela

These are the two files mentioned in my first post.

Helmet = tutorial

White screen = help file, where you can search for specific elements of Gmax

 Shouldn't this thread be in Content Creation Support?

Edit: Just re-read my post. Seemed a bit terse. Sorry. Really ought to have completed dishwashing before going back on PC. Dammned addiction!

There's a similar thread open in CCS now http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=55308 I had a lot of help there in my early struggles. A search of the archives is also likely to be useful. Hope it's going OK!

John, this pillar is an exercise designed I suppose to get one used to changing set objects to something else, that's why they say delete the box and then make another exactly like it, it's just getting the new user used to where things are and how they work. Yes, it is supposed to get you back to a flat surface I think and then the idea is to rebuild the box. It is then supposed to have a cylinder 'leg' on top of that to hold a road up, but I didn't get that far. In fact I am unable to get past this silly box and taking out 2 of the vertices, they all just go. Again it's somebody that's very used to the program trying to teach a dummy but not putting all the facts in and the ones they do are wrong! It doesn't help much....
I haven't given up yet, just need to work out why the actual program is doing things differently to the instructions, then I might make progress.

Are you saying its some sort of tutorial? There is stuff you need and stuff you don't need to make simple scenery objects for Trainz this sounds a very complicated way to me. Unless you are deleteing all the vertices then creating something that you extrude as per Paul Hobbs stuff but for simple buildings just make it out of cubes stuck together.

Thanks John

what Trainz Studio said and put it in Custom, it doesn't show

That instruction applied to TRS2004, I guess that you are on TS2010 now. Just drag the folder from Custom into the Main window of CM3

Nope

Nope, still in 2004! I do have several other versions but still like good ol' 04 the best. Maybe I am a stick-in-the-mud but it just seems so much easier to work with without the extra bells & whistles like speedtreez and high performace for steam locos.

Did run 2010 after it came but as my projects are 04 based I returned to it, at least for now. What happens after September? DOn't know yet, may run from my own site but will probably buy into a lifetime FCT ( a lifetime being 10 years according to Auran!) Mind you, it could be in my case.... I wonder if I'll still be clicking the keys and gawping at the PC screen (sorry, monitor) then?

Hi Casper,
Your rather backhanded apology accepted.... ha ha. Yes, it did come across a bit harsh, but your comment made me go look as I hadn't realised there was a section for CC at all.
And thanks for the link, I'll go have a peek....
Best thing for me is to start a thread in CC I think. This one began life as a request to Ben and sort of developed.
I packed it in last night quite late, eyes were playing up.
Maybe once I get past these few hurdles I will begin to advance?

Bless you for you help,

Angela

Yes, John, I am trying to follow this book and its lessons, better known as tutes.
But having sat and flipped through the pages I found another section dealing with vertices (what I might call node points) so I'll look into that.
I have to start somewhere, the videos are fine if your memory is good, but not much help for me. If I do it as I read then it tends to stick in the grey cells better.
So far gmax is winning though.... I actually got a box covered in bricks, although I can't see it anywhere!
I am sure both have their individual merits.

Blessings to you,

Angela

Angelah.
Please look at the tutorial by jytte Christrup. (jytte). It will take you through step by step. A great way to start.
