How do you manage to get the texture in such good detail, in one TGA file? Also, did you use "render to texture" on that, if you used 3Ds Max?Siemens Baureihe 189 (German Freight/Passenger Loco)

Ooh...I think I see shades of Tony Koester!
(*says to himself* dang it! Now we need Alleghany Midland RS-36s, C420s, RSD-12s...and Mallets, we need Mallets........And Berkshires!)

Awesome looking Union Switch & Signal style R-2 signal, Simulatortrain! This model signal is also one of my projects, but I haven't worked on it in a while because I haven't felt like getting around to it (modeling parts like the mounting brackets might not be a favorable job for a lazy guy
). Here are a couple of screenshots of my model's current progress: Front: http://hostthenpost.org/uploads/105037389ad842a0228fea84a2a956e4.jpg; Back: http://hostthenpost.org/uploads/fcff77fdd8270b774a384812b9c10055.jpg.
Did you use detailed plans to make your model? I have used what official US&S measurements I have found where possible (those located here in US&S catalog scans), but other parts of the signal are eyeballed off of photos, possibly increasing the difficulty in modeling.![]()

What else is there to say, really?
Great start! Looks like you've got more detail than mine!
I guesstimated what I could based off a known target width, and eyeballed the rest from photos. I didn't go nuts on all the tiny details because I'm not really a signal guy and just wanted to get this done and on my route, but now that I have it in some semblance of done I might go back and texture on some things like the bolts on the front and different hinges.
Dimensions like what you posted are exactly what I was looking for when I started, but comparing it to that it still looks reasonably accurate. Thanks for the link!
Thanks. Hopefully I'll finish it before a blue moon or two comes to pass. It's going for the fine details that might make it a longer and harder project.
Yes, Zachary Gillihan has lots of goodies such as those US&S catalog scans on his website. He also has signal photos on his website. His site as well as Railroad Signals of the U.S. are probably the primary sites that I have used for photos of these signals. Wikimedia Commons also has a couple or so relevant photos (the lens texture on my model is taken from a photo from there; if you want images licensed under a free license, check out Wikimedia Commons).
Anyway, good luck with your model, and I'll be interested in getting it if you release it.
P. S.: I assume that the searchlight-style hoods/visors on your model are a later style? I've seen those searchlight-style hoods on some R-2's in photos, but the style that's on mine and in those US&S catalog scans seems to be a common style.
Regards,
Zachary (a different one from the one who owns RR SIGNAL PIX . COM).
